HARRIERS STICK KNIFE IN, AFTER AVENUE FANS SUPPLY THE FORK
A Tuesday update is unusual, but Legends fans will be thrilled to learn that Kev took a step closer to Wembley last night by helping his new club to an emphatic 4-1 win at Bradford Park Avenue. The F.A Trophy continues to attract the publics imagination , with a crowd of 159 flocking along to the Horsfall Stadium last night. This total included 18 away fans, no doubt eager to sample again that renowned Yorkshire hospitality. Let's just hope the gate money didn't also have to finance an overnight hotel stay for Kev and his teammates.
Saturday's game was postponed due to icy conditions, and the omens didn't look good last night with Park Avenue due to name 'Frost' in their starting eleven.
Pre-match the call had gone out to local forkers, asking them to bring their implements along to the Horsfall:
A statement from the Conference North side said: “Following a pitch inspection conducted by tonight’s fourth official, the pitch at the Horsfall has been declared fit to play.
"There is very little water on the pitch and the majority has been cleared, and with the forecast for the rest of the afternoon as dry, and the skies looking clear, the club are, at this moment in time, positive about the game going ahead.
"However, this is subject to the temperamental weather of the moment.
"The club would also like to make a plea to any fan who could possibly get down to the Horsfall with their own fork to help clear any remaining water on the pitch.
"This would be greatly appreciated and you would be playing a huge part in getting this game played."

With Harriers not having played since December 2nd, Avenue were surely hoping that their opponents would be a little rusty, and that the 'Fork For Victory' clarion call that had gone out to the local population would yield victorious results. Kev's renowned fitness, bolstered by a selection of Herbalife energy and fitness products, saw him complete the full 90 minutes and still have sufficient strength to text his mate Manse after the match to mischievously enquire who Rovers have in the next round of the Trophy ?
All in all, a bit of a canter into the next round for Kev. Harriers had cruised into a 4-0 lead, although they did let Avenue score an 85th minute consolation goal scored by, as you've probably already guessed.....Frost.

For those with access to BT Sport, don't forget that there's a chance to see our Boxing Day opponents in action tonight when they play a difficult home match against Gateshead. It's a 7.45pm kick off.

Hmmm. I see the Legend on the scoresheet for Rovers. Was that all 3 scored by midfielders?

He certainly seems to have rediscovered some form this season, proving that it was a good move for both parties. We have Luke Young (for now!!!).

When rovers play us I want mansell to score a spectacular own goal, make a mistake to gift us a second and then get sent off! He can then rediscover his form against everyone else!

I see he got his fifth yellow last night. Not sure when the amnesty is on those, but every chance Judas won't be around for Christmas.

Mansell scoring for Rovers on Boxing Day is a bet waiting to be placed. It is bound to happen.

I can't bear the thought of a thoroughly delighted Iscariot 'refusing' to celebrate a goal in front of us, whilst barely containing himself. Enough to bring you're sprouts back up. Tempted to put some money on it to numb the pain, hector. Thanks for the info DVN. Judas at Christmas it is.

Indeed, I will often bet on those scenarios I dread happening as a form of what I call 'an insurance bet'.

Another chance to crack open a can of 'Legends Max' with a 6 point haul from the latest set of pre Christmas matches for Nico and Manse. Both sailed through the full 90 minutes thanks to their magnificent fitness (aided by Herbalife energy supplements) and their renowned professional approach to the game.
Kev's side hit a 90th minute winner to give them a 2-1 home victory over Lincoln. That moves Harriers one point above us, but also with a game in hand. Rovers overcame Gateshead 3-2 in a cracker played out in front of the BT Sport cameras. The TUFC scout at the match will surely be emphasising throughout this coming week how absolutely vital it is that we don't let Cap'n Manse score against us on Boxing Day....because his celebratory dance is appalling. No denying the sheer quality of the free kick however, as The Cap'n expertly bends his shot around the Gateshead wall:
With Rovers losing with just under half an hour to go, I see that some have mistakenly put the Pirates superb recovery and eventual victory down to a change in tactics. In fact it was down to a change of on-field leadership. Rovers Captain McCrystal was taken off injured in the 66th minute. Manse was then free to let all his natural leadership skills blossom. You could almost see his fists starting to pump before McCrystal had fully left the pitch. There's nothing like leading by example, and within 3 minutes Mighty Manse himself showed what was required by hitting that glorious free kick into the Gateshead goal, thereby raising the spirits of his teammates as well as the whole stadium.
There was now no stopping the Cap'n Manse inspired Rovers, and it was only another 3 minutes before they'd struck again to secure maximum points. I do wonder whether Manse was fitted with his first Captain's armband while sitting in his pushchair ? He certainly appears to have been born to fulfil the role.
I think we can allow ourselves to cast one eye ahead to the Boxing Day encounter. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who read with dismay the comment from a long standing fan (who will have witnessed plenty of dreadful TUFC performances over the years) that the team's display at Braintree moved him to the 'brink of anger'.
All the more worrying when we contrast such a dismal showing with these lines from today's Bristol Post: 'this new-look Rovers side that trades on, as Darrell Clarke was quick to point out afterwards, heart, desire and character in abundance'.
From what I read regarding our painfully weak display at Braintree, it's as if our heart, desire and character was somehow transplanted directly into Bristol Rovers sometime over the Summer !
But it's no use looking back. I think we all accept that Cap'n Manse has deservedly gone on to bigger and better things. Yesterdays Western Morning News informed me that 263 spectators turned up at Poltair Park to watch St.Austell's Peninsula League match on Saturday. Seeing that the Gulls are now in a division where they're performing in front of only 818 on occasions such as this weekend, the fact that such attendance gaps can now be counted in a few hundreds rather that thousands, is a sobering thought. Very different from the spotlight the Cap'n now displays his skills under. A decent nationwide (and probably much further afield) TV audience courtesy of BT, were able to drool over that precision free kick, and yet 5,367 still came through the turnstiles to witness the great Captain in the flesh, and to acclaim him inspiring another Pirates win.
Roll on Boxing Day, when we will be able to express our own thanks and respect to one of the Plainmoor all time greats.
