Am guessing that Lingy really knew there was never a chance of us getting him. His friendship with Paul Bodin probably gave him a decent insight into that, as well as any gut feeling. Di Canio did rather swoop for players belonging to other promotion contenders as soon as the window opened after all. Rooney and Constable being the ones I recall. At least Lingy has given out a positive message to any other would be loanees that he we are a good and supportive place to come. But Di Canio now says what many may have thought was likely the case. Yer Oxford's, Gills', Cheltenham's, Sarfend's, Gulls' and other high flyers aren't getting any favours off him. That said, Di Canio could quite easily put half his squad up for loan if they lose their next game/he decides he wants his butler to build a robot spaniel/doesn't like snow/because it was meant to be/ref is a testa da casso (delete as appropriate).

Wot Rob sed in the post above.
Lingy would have known what the chances of getting him back were through Paul Bodin. Showing Billy that we had done everything to try and get him here either permanently or on another loan deal might stand us in good stead for the summer, by which time we would know whether he will get another deal at Swindon. Play the long game Lingy - if we don't get Bodin back it won't be for the want of either trying or thinking.

The one thing Lingy has shown us is he knows what he is doing. Who are we to question him? The way he has handled this season so far, he has shown that he has a policy and procedure that he adheres to. He has followed a path he obviously believes in and it has shown to be right. He has so much more awareness of his profession than our previous manager I think it shows in our reaction to some of his decisions. Have faith in our manager, he knows what he is doing. If Robbo`s departure has an effect on our results, stay with it, cause Dr Ling will prescribe the correct medication. COYY

Bodin has scored tonight with another stunning long range goal. Di Canio is coming to appreciate the lad I feel....

After not playing for a couple of games has been sent out on loan to Crewe until the end of the season. Not helped by the fact that they have still to play us! I think Ling would have liked to have got him back but we are literally the victims of our own success being the closest rivals to Swindon getting the title! Whether this means that he may be available at the end of the season is another matter. If Di Canio doesn't rate him to play league 2 football then how will he feel about him playing league 1 football! Don't understand it myself as I felt he was doing OK on his return there!

Given that Crewe are soon to play Crawley, Cheltenham and us, it makes perfect sense that he'd want to loan Bodin out to them

Lingy said after Tuesday he wasn't looking for any loans unless it was Bodin so he must have asked if he was available. Bit odd this, as surely Swindon don't see us as a threat either. Unless Crewe offered Swindon or Bodin more money to go there. For all the brilliant job Lingy has done this season I still think he's boobed here by going on endlessly about how fantastic Bodin was. As well as making Swindon think again, it would only have alerted every other clubs about a good unsettled player worth keeping tabs on, and we've no divine right to second choice on Bodin. It's a money-orientated competitive market that dictates where people go so we need to act stealthily However much Bodin might have likedTorquay money will talk if other clubs want him and it will be another Stanley scenario. Lingy is a bit too talkative and honest to the media, there's always a new interview on the BBC. The whole world will know now Bobby Olejnik is worth buying and Lingy has even gone on about how keen he is on Jarvis, when he doesn't even start games. It probably didn't help Di Canio feel favourable to us after our fans spent half of tuesday singing F*** off Di Canio at him either It's a bit worrying to see our play off rivals and end of season opponents strengthening their squads yet again, except for us.

It's a bit worrying to see our play off rivals and end of season opponents strengthening their squads yet again, except for us. We have had to cope with that all season and doesn't necessarily mean that they will finish higher than us. Maybe you can take it as another vote of confidence in the current players who have exceeded all expectations! As for Ling's media style, it is completely opposite to Buckle who was criticised for not being open and honest so sometimes the manager will be criticised no matter what he says as you can't please all the people all the time! It is only really Bodin he has talked about in advance so maybe it is his friendship with his father that has driven this?

Billy looked Sharpe when he was here on loan, I hope if he does leave Swindon we can put together a package that would tempt him here and a fee that would satisfy Swindon, he's a good un.He I think would form a great partnership with Rene.

I think we knew that Crewe were interested and that article doesn't tell us that much more apart from they are now serious. Plus points for them are they can offer Billy league 1 football with better facilities, possibly on higher wages and have more cash available at present. Plus points for us are that we can offer him a starting place in a squad he has done well with, something Crewe didn't do at Wembley and perhaps bring his Career on quicker. However, you can see why Ling is keen to improve our facilities as that would be part of the attraction for Billy.
Interestingly, at the foot of the page I see they look close to signing a centre back which is likely to be Ellis. It feels slightly incestuous in that Crewe could give us money for Ellis which could then be used to outbid them for Bodin....

Could be the start of a haggling process - even the Herald wrote that Ling would go up to £50k. Bodin will leave Swindon, just depends on how much Crewe will pay for him. Football contracts end on 30th June so all parties will probably want to resolve this one way or another.

Come on United, take the plunge and put a bid to Swindon that they will take seriously (get him for the club). I f its Crewe we are up against I think the Robins would rarer he came here than see him go to one of their divisional rivals!!! Lets do it must have some cash?
