i would go tonight but i am afraid they would announce the england v poland score. i would record the international and relax that some muppet would possibly say the score of the england game. cant stand watching recorded matches if i know the score, particulary if its 0-0. looks a bad decision now as the game is a washout in Poland

final score 2-2. yeovil win 5-4 on pens. undeserved i would say. gulls holding on fairly comfortably 2-1 with 2mins left and woeful defending by cruise , not getting an obvious challenge in on their right allowing a cross and an easy goal. gulls scorers in pens, manse, billy b, rene, nathan craig and an easy save from their keeper from tom cruise. attendance approx 2,200. with 200 yeovil fans. gulls players emerging with credit. jarvis, battled well and took 2 goals well, downes, saah, craig, easton , manse, bodin and stevens.

Well, we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory to prevent us from winning two consecutive games for the first time this season! Many positives from this though as we looked the better team and passed the ball very well at times. The 200 odd Yeovil fans were in good voice initially as we started the "wrong way round" but were shut up as we gradually took control of the match. We almost passed the ball into the net for the first goal when after a long passing move, the ball was slipped through to Bodin who got to the ball near the by-line on the edge of the six yard box and with the keeper committed was able to slip it past him for Jarvis to finish with a simple tap in. Against the run of play we conceded to some route one stuff after a free kick on the half way line was booted up to the penalty spot and with a lot of hustling going on, Poke may have got a hand to the ball which then fell to a Yeovil player to slot home into the empty net! Just before half time we had a good chance to regain the lead when the ball was slipped through to Jarvis for a one on one with the keeper but his shot was just diverted wide of the right hand post! In the second half it was fairly even Stevens until the ball was stolen in midfield and Danny was released on the left wing and draw the remaining defenders and was able to cross to Jarvis who was able to slot home from just inside the area low to the far corner. He almost had his hat-trick just a bit later when under pressure from a defender was able to get his foot in to a deep cross but his effort hit the base of the post with the keeper beaten! Amazing what a couple of goals can do to your confidence - certainly got in the right positions for all four of his chances! He was substituted to a standing ovation with Thompson on the wing and Billy up front. To be honest, we looked comfortable until the final few minutes when we started to defend too deep and just as 3 minutes of injury time was announced they were able to break on the right of the area and put a low cross in to the edge of the six yard box and score a gut wrenching equaliser. Rene was brought on immediately for the penalty shoot out. The penalties were taken at the Babbacombe end and Pokey had little chance with theirs although did get a hand to one but only to divert it into the top of the net. Yeovil were very lucky to get through this tie and there are worse matches to lose!

Encouraging and confidence boosting performance which means so much more than actually progressing in this pretty meaningless competition. The squads fringe players needed that game as well and Lingy will have learned plenty from tonight. Debatable I suppose but other than the result a good night.

totally farcial goings on in poland, they only had to close the bleeding roof dooooohhhhh Apparently, the roof takes 15 mins to close " but cannot happen in temperatures under zero centigrade, very strong winds or when rainfall is deposited on it." All those situations when you might need a roof, in other words. Apart from blazing hot sun and 30+ degrees temperature. Design fault, perchance?

Sounds as if the game went the same way so many other games have gone when we have played a team from a higher league in a cup competition.
Play well and take the lead and maybe deserve to go through to the next round, only to see victory turn to defeat in the dieing seconds. When I return to work next week I will ask my friends in Yeovil who I know went to last nights game, there take on how they saw the game go.
At the end of the day its a cup no one seems to care about very much and maybe its good we are now out of it so we can concentrate on getting further up the table.
