So after another fortnight of no football this year, we go into this game against one of our promotion rivals knowing that another win would take us up to at least fifth, give Ling his first six game winning sequence as manager and avenge our 2-0 defeat back in September.
This will be no easy matter as Shrewsbury come into this match also in good form with three wins, putting away Southend and Gillingham at home and winning their local Derby at Hereford last time out. They have 11 points out of the last 18.
Their winning sequence has come despite being a tad short on defenders with Goldson, Hazell (former gull nobbled by Rene) and Cansdell-Sheriff all out injured but nearing fitness. Marvin Morgan is suspended for this one although they still have good strikers in the form of James Collins (top scorer with Morgan on 9) and Terry Gornell! On the wing, Wright is another goal threat with eight so far! Romaine Sawyer has been brought in on loan from West Brom to bolster their attacking options and may well feature at some point.
Nicky Wroe has been on the bench recently so will be a disappointment if he doesn't start. It is worth reflecting on this fixture last March which will stick long in the memory! A 5-0 thrashing with Shrewsbury loanee Robinson sticking it up to his employers with a brace as well as drawing the tackle to get Grandison sent off! Just a pity that one of our more optimistic members wasn't around to see it!
I can't see any surprises on the selection front in our ever diminshing squad as the side now virtually picks itself. A return to the side for Saah and Atieno probably replacing Howe at some point in the match. The question is, will any new players come in before the match as the loan window opens tomorrow? I think it is unlikely that Craig will make the bench at this stage in his trial period.
Hopefully, there will be a decent crowd for this, particularly as Shrewsbury brought around 500 odd last year.
