With reference to conceding 1 goal in 9 home matches being a statistical record for us, whats the record for 13 wins in 16 and 2 draws, I cant ever recall such a run since supporting the gulls back in 1987(Dobson goal against Crewe). This run is astonishing, I almost downed tools after the Southend match, and surely we have to be contenders for autos, Swindon will win it, Crawley will be 2nd, and with chelts/southend having a wobble 3rd place is up for grabs...and it would appear Ling is waiting for to sign the forward so that he can play at Wembley. I had a customer come to me today saying his dad played for us back in the mid-80's, his name was Joseph(jo) Smith can anyone comment on this??? I can't remember a sequence of 13 wins and only one defeat in 16 games in my 49 seasons of watching although I expect Jon and Barton to be on here any minute number crunching and proving me wrong! ;D For home games with a tight defence the nearest to our present run I can remember were the first 9 home games of our 1965/66 promotion season, when we won 8 and drew one conceding just 2 goals. Mind you that run was brought to a crushing end with a 4-1 home defeat to Stockport County, and a couple of months later we lost 4-0 at home to Darlington (having also kicked off the season with a 4-1 defeat at Bradford City). It just shows you can have some heavy defeats in a promotion season, which is probably why I wasn't too concerned after the Southend and Gillingham games! We did of course have that run of 10 games without conceding home and away, although that was spread over 2 seasons the last 7 games of 2009/2010 and the first 3 games of 2010/2011. We are also now getting mighty close to our record number of successive wins, 8 in 1997/98 when we had Jason Roberts and Rodney Jack rampaging away up front. All in all my prediction on another thread the 'where will we finish' poll isn't looking quite so stupid now! ;D

stefano agreed, after over 40 years of ups and downs i cannot remember so many positive sequences occuring with the team. Its almost like a dream, its very impressive and long may it continue. Although it is very dangerous too look further the next game,we have 53 points and 17 to play, lots more points up for grabs,if lingy can keep the lads heads clear and positive but not complacent we could do something nobody expected back in august. Cheltenham is such a big game now,if we perform as we have been doing up there anything is possible. And they are on a bit of a wobble, reading their forums they are not looking forward to playing us on tuesday,we are starting to strike fear into the opposition which is nice to read, but we are all to aware that things can go wrong all of a sudden,so feet on the ground and one game at a time, lingy will have them focused

Enjoyed the game as well as the result ! Both teams pass, pass, pass, decent stuff. Impressed with us as usual, just looking forward to seeing who Ling brings in on loan. And that stand is going to be higher than people expect, should be a great view from up there. Anyway lets hope we can take a few hundred to Cheltenham and get behind the lads, they certainly deserve it.

Guts, grit and a determination that I have rarely witnessed in such abundance from the team together with an overwhelming feeling of togetherness was the feeling I came a way with yesterday. I don think we hit the heights of our very best performances. As much as anything it was the team spirit that won us the match yesterday just as our win over Swindon. Taiwo deserves a lot of credit for the role hes playing as lone striker, a pretty thankless task and in all honesty you cannot expect goals a plenty from him playing in this very efficient system. Not always pretty but very effective particularly defensively. The system Lingy has adopted is one where any player can score goals. Even when our goal is threatened we have one of the best keepers I have ever seen where the gulls shirt. Bobby is an inspiration for those in front of him and he makes the job appear to look so easy, a sure sign of class and true ability. Only slight downer for me was Ian Morris who I thought had lost his touch once again with to many over hit and stray passes though others I guess would disagree and he worked hard and improved somewhat in in the second half. No time to be negative and I am certain we will be going for another win on Tuesday for what would be an unbelievable seventh win on the trot.

there was one comical moment yesterday involving mcphee, did anyone else see him and a shrews player go for the ball towards the popside, the shrews player went down and it looked like 4 seconds later mcphee theatrically fell to the ground as if he had been pole-axed,that was a little cringeworthy and amusing,it was far easier for him to escape with the ball

The amazing run continues. One of the most pleasing things for me was the way that Saah seemed to slot back in to the side so efficiently, filling the Robbo shaped hole so effectively. Here's hoping I can get away from work on time to get to the Cheltenham game!!! ;D
