Good evening in Aldershot tonight, with three points safely tucked away.
A good first half performance saw some slick passing. Stevens was lively but Howe was poor tonight and never really got going. We looked solid at the back in the first half, and Nicho put in an excellent shift. Mansell gave his all but was fortunate with this goal. O'Kane looked knackered.
Second half was a different story, and better opposition would have punished us. The Shots hit the post in the first half and it could have been very different if that had gone in. I don't want to be too critical, because that's 6/6 for the last two away games, and three away games on the trot is a big ask for any team. However, there will be times when we face more clinical opposition, and it simply won't do to spend 40 minutes camped in the opposition's half giving away corner after corner. Not entirely convinced with Saah and thought Olejnik's distribution was poor again.
It's another three points bagged away from home, but Ling will have to ensure we play better than that if we are to get anything from our Gatwick-based nemesis.

We were very poor tonight and a shadow of the team that played so well at Bristol. With the poor finishing by Aldershot the game had 0 0 written all over it. With one or two exceptions our players seemed a yard off the pace and were far too happy to back off and allow the shots to attack in waves. Olejnik's kicking was dire tonight. To say that 80% of his kicks went straight out for a throw or a goal kick would not be an exaggeration. We were very lucky tonight and I will take the three points as we will need them if we continue to play like that. Crawley will be a different kettle of fish and unless Martin Ling can get them up for this game Mr Tubbs will have a field day against us.

A dogged performance where we rode our luck in the last 15mins. Nicho had a steady, sound game against his lively winger although Oastler on the right was skinned several times. With Howe & Danny being replaced we lost the pace of the game in that last 15 mins but we held out. Yellow Army magnificent!!! Why is it not like that at home games? Funniest moment came when the Shots mascot with a phoenix type head came walking around the pitch after 10mins to be ridiculed by the Yellow Army as to 'What the ****ing hell is that' to be replaced with 'Are you Buckle in disguise.....' Quite impressed with Bobby O in goal. Okay, his kicking & distribution will be improved but he is everything that you hoped Bevon would be.

It is nice to read a good selection of match reports for an away game so thanks to everyone who posted! After the huge effort on Saturday, sounds like that there was a dip in the performance with our midfield in particular being over run! Well done to Manse though on yet another goal.

Listening to Ling on radio Devon, he wasn't happy with the performance as our passing was off and the defence was under a heck of a lot of pressure. It has happened to us too many times in the last couple of seasons so I take an ugly three points, particularly coming on the end of three away games in a week. Now isn't that refreshing...a Torquay Manager who said he wasn't happy about a team performance~when was the last time that happened? Seems to have his feet firmly planted on the ground, and not with his head in the clouds or up his own arse!

I think our new manager Mr Ling is to coin a phrase "well grouned" and calls a "kettle a kettle" pc version.

Listening to the second half of that game "winning ugly" should mean "we have fluked three points because we were absolutely shit". Thats two big wins in four days though. Seemed that Mcphee came on and didn't touch the ball for twenty five minutes. Really sounded a dire peformance - I fear that our luck will run out bigstyle when Sheriff Evans and Deputy Dawg role into town and shaft us right up the arse bigstyle. Well done Dopey---this was almost a positive post!! Delighted that from North Devon you could see that we won ugly and McPhee didnt touch the ball!! I really think you should have your own section on here of great posts............who will forget.................................... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No it won't be mid table - we have got no chance.

A few thoughts on last night's game...
We were certainly lucky to escape with maximum points and must thank our wasteful opponents for their lack of penetration in front of goal. Having said that, I thought we defended admirably at times (with a special mention to Nicho who made some crucial interceptions and whose distribution was it's usual, effective self). Robbo also had a solid, if unspectacular game.
Eunan struggled all evening. I'm not sure if it was tiredness or simply 'one of those nights' but even he must admit he was well below par. Manse got extremely fortunate with the goal but overall got stuck in and did his job.
The front two were nowhere near as effective as they were on Saturday, with Rene in particular looking a bit sluggish. I would like to credit Atieno though for the defensive shift he put in. There was a period in the second half where it seemed he was getting on the end of every Aldershot set-piece!
The away fans were excellent, with almost constant vocal support for all the men in yellow (not to mention the man in the dugout). Speaking of which, the biggest laugh of the evening - besides the goal - was provided by chants of 'Are you Buckle in disguise?' aimed towards the Aldershot Phoenix, surely the most unusual looking mascot in League 2, if not the country!
All in all, a disappointing performance but a worthwhile journey and 3 more points in the bag... Bring on creepy Crawley!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No it won't be mid table - we have got no chance. Hate to seem like i'm sticking up for mk, but not even the most "rose-tinted" fan could say we were anything other than very poor (and fortunate to get all 3 points) on the night. If the Shots front line could actually hit a cows arse with a banjo, we would have come home empty handed and bemoaning it as being on a par with last seasons performance at the same ground.

Yep, we were poor last night (second half especially). I'm hoping three consecutive away games with an almighty effort at the Memorial Ground lay behind this. Let's hope the boys aren't too leggy on Saturday, but I never have a good feeling for games against teams like Crawley. Then again, many of us did not expect us to do the job we did on Rovers, so who knows...?
