The matches are coming in thick and fast now and in not great playing conditions so it is little wonder that Buckle is rotating the squad as well as having his eye out for some more loanees to get us through this spell.
After clean sheets in three games against what in fairness are poor sides in this division, three late goals in the last two have cost us four points! Although a draw may have been fair in both matches, there have been plenty of matches where we have undeservedly come away with nothing so a little bit more know how and composure is necessary to make that difference as we enter the last third of the season. Luckily, this difference is between mid table and a shot at promotion as I think even the most pessimistic TUFC fan is letting out a cautionary and possibly grudgingly sign of relief that Mr Relegation is not coming out to play this year! ;D
Although Potter had a good game until the last onslaught, I think Buckle will get Bevan back in goal as I think he now deserves the chance to get his shirt back again. LRT or Nicholson? You decide, but we are still unbeaten with the former in the side. Up front, probably a combination of Robinson, Zebs and Kee who have all found the back of the net recently. Oastler and Stanley seem to have formed a good partnership in the middle and should stay there.
As for the other Stanley, of the Accrington variety, they have won their last two matches against Crewe and Wycombe and only lost one of their last six home matches so will be a tough nut to crack. Top Scorer is Gornell with 10 followed closely by McConville and Edwards.

if we give the ball away on the cheap as we have recently there will more than likely be only one result,an accy win,if and at present a big if,we can retain the ball,we could get a result,our sparkling passing and scoring game is being damaged by our obcession with sitting back and letting the opponent play,stop that we will get a result,and bevan back please,definitely our number one,potter ok as a stand in,but thats all really

Top Scorer is Gornell with 10 followed closely by McConville and Edwards. That may be the case Rob, but our team is good enough to go there and get a win. We are more than capable of scoring goals and so there are not worries on that front. But as we know and have been talking about all week, is what we do after we have taken the lead that is our downfall. I'm sure Bucks would have got the team working all this week on ways to keep possession of the ball better than we have been doing. Can't see to many changes being made to the starting eleven other than Bevan coming back in for Potter. I think Rowe-Tuner will hold onto the right back spot and Nico coming on sometime during the second half. Can't see Maklin starting and maybe we will see Bucks go back to 4-4-1-1 that has worked away well before and if so then I can see O'Kane starting in the hole behind billy Kee. Have Robinson out on the left and Zebs on the right with a license to run at their defense as much as possible and goals will come. It does seem Bucks had the players playing in all different positions during the game on Tuesday night, I would prefer to see our players starting and as much as possible playing in their best positions. |

Seems that Potter is going to retain his place...prefer Bevan myself! There is one change that I would make and that is Okane. Seems to have gone off the boil a bit. Did hear that he was off in the January transfer window, hope he hasn't got a strop on because he didn't get his move. Seems to tie in with his form though! We should be able to get the points here, just as we should have got the points on Tuesday...last ten minutes are going to be very interesting...and probably heartbreaking!

of course we are good eough to there and get a result,we always seem to bounce back from disappointing results,ok a point away from home usually a good result,we wont go there after tuesday ha ha ha ha,as you can see got my sense of humour back,going for a draw guys,then beat them millers on tuesday,sure you will take 4 points from next 2 games,long to go yet in the season,still confident we will make playoffs.....simon

its rare for a manager to pick out players who are confirmed to be in team as PB has done with potter today,fair enough he is the boss,but for the life of me cant see why bevan missed out in the first place,i saw what i saw on tuesday and imho bevan is the better keeper,but my opinion counts for naught within the towers of plainmoor,i hope it doesnt go wrong

After reading what Paul Buckle has so say about the goal keeping situation, it sounds to me he thinks Danny Potter is a better goal keeper than Scott Bevan. He said that only letting in three goals in five games is a good return from Danny, Really? For three of those games he could have taken a book to read while keeping goal, he simply had hardly anything to do in any of those three games. I was not at Tuesday night’s game, but reading the reports and listening to what Steve Breed was saying during the match, I think he ended up showing the weaknesses in his game. Bucks also said “Scott Beven is in the land of the giants and is entitled to take a few crosses but ultimately, I like my keepers to keep goal. I don’t like keepers leaving the goal”Defenders want their keeper to be commanding in the air and come and catch those high balls played in to the box from corners etc. That is what Scott Bevan does and as far as I’m concerned he does keep goal and only leaves it when he needs to come out to get to a ball before a forward can. I’m sure the Accrington Stanley manager will be well aware the problems Danny Potter seems to have with high balls swung in under his cross bar and I bet he will be telling his players to do that as often as possible. I hope Danny has a good game in goal for us and does not make any costly mistakes, as fans will be even more unhappy then with the decision taken to once again play Danny Potter in goal and not Scott Bevan. That is providing that is what Bucks does and not change his mind before the team sheet is handed in. |

i can see accy launching wave after wave of high balls into our box,coleman will of done his homework on us,lets hope potter has an inspired game if he starts

am sure whoever plays in goal tomorrow will do a fine job,up to the rest of the team to there job as well,if potter does play have every confidence in him

Yep....I'm not normally negative but can't see us getting much out of this one.......it's a bit of a graveyard for us there and another heavy pitch will not suit most of our players or our style of play, Wheras Accy are well used to churning out results on it.....

I'm afraid I think that JM is probably going to be right. Our record there has yielded two defeats since they came back into the league and I can only see tomorrow that we are on the end of a third - Accy have far more about them than Cheltenham posed the other night and I would expect that they will create far more problems for our defence and keeper (who ever that might be tomorrow).
It's funny really because of all the teams that have come to Plainmoor and knocked the ball around I would say that Accy's control of the ball was probably the best that I have seen. We were very fortunate to have a 0-0 draw and I would certainly be very happy if we could get that tomorrow - there would be no shame in that.
Their players must be adaptable to play on that pitch then go away and play on a full grass pitch. It will be interesting to see how some of our players cope on such a surface - I can't see it suiting O'Kane and Robinson for starters!!

You've said almost exactly what I wanted to here Dave, thanks for saving me the bother! Of course, accy manager Coleman will be looking to target the weaknesses, and the high crosses will be one of them... we could see Danny having to do a whole lot more tomorrow than he has in these 5 games. To be honest, I think it's time to see Scotty back in the starting line-up. I don't know which keeper gives the defence more confidence but for me it's Bevan and we want the good attacking defenders to have the confidence to maybe go forwards. Hopefully we'll see Bevan back soon then. |

Scotty Bevan should be between the sticks tomorow based on Accy will go up and under big style.

Hi rjagull, I don't think for one second Danny Potter is a poor keeper, only that I believe Scott Bevan offers the team that bit more at this time. We have talked about his ability to help take the pressure of our defenders at set pieces etc, something that does help install confidence in our defense.
I think its a case that Paul Buckle sees things differently than the fans where our goal keepers are concerned, its his team, he picks who plays and it is he who gets the pats on the back, or the boo's from the fans.
For me its the same where Rowe-Tuner is concerned, he has improved greatly, but for me Nico offers just that bit more. At the end of the day its no more than us fans just giving our own opinions, but as far as who should go in goal on Saturday is concerned, I think most of us on this occasion all happen to agree.

as far as potter is concerned he isnt a bad goalie i just feel more comfortable with bevan there,maybe because bevan is big and seems more commanding thats all
