With three successive wins, the team should head into this fixture full of confidence and with the potential to get into the play offs. It is amazing how quickly a season can change because if we had lost the previous three games we would be just two points off the relegation zone and in a downward spiral that could have seen us crash and burn.  Looking back over the season thus far, it can be seen that the team had good runs in August and November and it is imperative that we keep this one going if we are to progress further up the table. (I'm sure that a graph showing our accumulative points tally over the previous three or four league games would illustrate this point perfectly!) Southend are only separated from us by goal difference and will be a tough nut to crack so hopefully this hat-trick of wins will tempt the stay-aways back to help create that all important atmosphere. Southend are on a rich vein of form having won their last four away matches and four and of their last five league matches. Danger men are Barry Corr, formerly of Exeter, with thirteen goals and Anthony Grant with seven. They beat Wycombe last night 3-2 at Root Hall with an injury time winner, a match where a certain Scotty Rendle also scored. Looking at our team, it is hard to break up a winning side but a fit again Nico may well make a start. The only other change that I would even remotely consider would be Gilligan for O'Kane as Eunan has lost a bit of spark recently and maybe in his first full season for us would benefit from a rest with the hectic schedule of games coming up on heavy pitches! A tough game but one we need to win against what I consider to be a play off rival. |

the game at their place which we ended up losing 2-1 was the start of the rot setting in after our terrific start to the season.I am looking forward to this one,they will be very difficult to beat,and we definitely have to take a couple of our chances if they present thereselves.I reckon on a 2-1 win for us,but not without the usual we shall let them play attitude sometime in the match

In another post Dave mentions that all Potter has done so far to earn his wages is stand by the far post and scratch his arse! That will all change on saturday! I do hope that Buckle will continue with three up front, and not pull his head back in his shell and start with the negative one up front formation. I think we will need Nico back for this one because I think we are going to need his extra firepower! Giving Okane a rest as mentioned ^ could also be an option!

I believe that part of the reason for the grandstand redevelopment was so that additional changing facilities could be incorporated into the design for this very scenario. I haven't heard anything in respect of a grant from the football foundation as of yet though. |

I certainly remember that debut for Wendy Toms, Mike - and she did a great job - think of all the bloody awful linesmen that have gone down in Plainmoor history (especially that tool in front of the Pop Side for the Forest Green match in the promotion season!!!).
As per one of the above observations, I think that O'Kane has struggled in the last few weeks, I know he has been nursing a sore foot but perhaps his confidence has been hit after the Crawley and Hereford defeats. That would be understandable - maybe a couple of games when he starts on the bench would help ease him back in a bit - he can certainly turn a game (just as he did against Morecambe last autumn). It's a tough one with LR-T - firstly he has never been on a losing TUFC side and secondly he has been an improvement on the player that really struggled last season - I'm not sure if I would bring-back Nico just yet, even if he does offer more attacking options.
Saturday proves to be a good test for how the players have gelled in the last couple of weeks. We've never beaten a Paul Sturrock side and they will be sniffing the play-offs after a really tought start to the season. Banston against Corr will be a classic League Two contest just for starters! A draw will not be a bad result at all for us, especially with the opportunity to make it up on Tuesday at Cheltenham
