If you were actually at the game rather than than basing your opinions on a 3 minute highlight you would know that he played really well after his mishap. I wasn't making a football observation, I was making a joke. Perhaps if you hadn't wasted your time and money through naivity traveling from "South of Heaven" to go and watch a periphery tournament (the half price admission and convenienty early kick off time for kids might have given some clues to a more savvy person) you might have retained your sense of humour. I'm sure "Big Mark" will endure far more piss taking in the dressing room and on the training ground than he will ever receive from me.

Turned out to be a frustrating night for us Gulls. We can only wonder how the game would have panned out if Benyon had scored his chance in the first minute or Kee hit his shot with more power. Alasa nice little move from them with a great back heel and we were one down. We played pretty well in the first half without getting many opportunities but they looked dangerous on the break and both potter and the post helped us out before the killer goal on half time.
The formation in the first half was 5-3-2 and then changed a couple of times in the second half as we tried to get something out of the game. We only really had two chances, Benyon just missed and Okane had a shot saved but Swindon were in control of the game and running midfield and Potter saved us two or three times.
Senda looked like he needs a few more reserve games before playing against the pace of Swindon squad. A few times when in space down the right he had no pace to move forward and kept coming back into a busy midfield. Rowe-Turner and Potter had reasonable games but Kee didnt play well in the second half and Benyon had to run miles for the team again.
Grittons addition ddint really make much difference and i think it was him who won us a free kick with about 10 mins to go which was treated to a huge long cheer from the travelling fans as the ref had finally given us a free kick, we duly then kicked it straight into touch to long cheers from the Swindon fans.
In the end a very comfortable win for Swindon who will of course will be looking for a playoff place again so was good experience for some of our younger players.

Sensible decision by the manager to play the fringe players but I guess that is why they are fringe players. Lets hope that the decision to give some players a well earned rest will pay dividends on Saturday.

But Rags, was there any need for I'm sure "Big Mark" will endure far more piss taking in the dressing room and on the training ground than he will ever receive from me. When all I was doing was defending Ellis, because he had a good 88 minutes at Shrews? This is what I wrote about Ellis after the Shrewsbury game. (sorry Stuart I know how quoting oneself freaks you out). Ellis; Won his first challenge and you think its so glad to have him back, they he makes a howler of a mistake which gifts them a goal. Branston, then Robertson have a go at him. He tries to apologise, to Branston then Mansell?? Then Buckle, Then anyone who was looking at him, no one very interested. I felt sorry for him and it had a detrimental effect on him as for the rest of the game it was like he was in a bit of a trance. Missed a couple of tackles and got caught out of position a few times, but the guy has been out for a few games so hopefully he learns from this puts it behind him and comes back next week stronger than ever. I’d like to have seen Wroe, in his capacity as captain, go over and do the arm around the shoulder touch to get him to put it out of his mind. Whilst I agree that your view of Ellis’s performance, because you were at the game, is more valid than that of someone who only saw the highlights, however I don’t think Mark did have a good 88 minutes at all. Now I am a BIG fan of Mark Ellis, however I felt that he never recovered from his mistake and like I alluded to in my post that wasn’t all his fault. He was looking for, but never received, a good arm around the shoulder and a word of encouragement in his ear. I still think if someone, preferably Wroe in is role as captain or Branston, had just had a quiet word with him he would have been able to put that mistake out of his system, relaxed a lot more and possibly had a much better game. I’m sure he will be back to his very best come Saturday. I know we saw a couple of things differently last Saturday, but that’s the beauty of debating on a forum. I didn’t realise you were the drummer so may I say a genuine well done for the atmosphere you helped create . It’s the first away game it ages that I haven’t been embarrassed by our supporters, long may it continue.

Whilst I agree that your view of Ellis’s performance, because you were at the game, is more valid than that of someone who only saw the highlights......... I haven't seen anyone present a view on this thread of Ellis's performance at Shrewsbury based on what they saw from TV highlights so I hope you are not getting sucked into the pretence that I have. What I did was make a tongue in cheek comment based on the chances of him navigating a car around the Magic Roundabout system outside Swindon's ground after his difficulty navigating his way out of our penalty area with the ball on Saturday at Shrewsbury. Does this have to be logged as an "Official Joke" now to prevent it being thrown into Dave's new little Rant room? If so, can it regarded as a joke please Mr Mainwaring? ;D

I also have no problems with most of your tongue in cheek remarks, whether the subject goes off topic or not. However, what i was doing was agreeing with something that awayday had said before putting my own point across that was different to his in the hope that I was giving a balanced view. i.e. I agree with some of the things that you said, however i disagree with this bit ..... If you had left all of my quote in you would have seen that I tried to do that here. Personally I find this a better way of making my own point, but that’s just me, though i am not sure why I am on here right now having to justify what I said in the first place. Anyway i'm off to bed

tufc01... were you walking around Shrewsbury on Saturday morning wearing a yellow sweat-shirt type United top and with a couple of other people, one small? If not, then we had more than a few supporters in the town then!

Worse than that we can't delete! With hindsight I thought that a couple of my posts were a little infantile and not of the standard expected on this forum and was going to delete them, but I can't so my irrational musings are trapped in cyberspace forever. Let's hope for a win on Saturday so that we can all start optimistically debating football again!

With hindsight I thought that a couple of my posts were a little infantile Your right to delete anything you write on this forum has not and never will be taken away, the board that is a rather stupid idea and one that should never be necessary on an adult forum was simply hidden this morning in the hope we did not have another day like yesterday. This forum can't afford many more days like yesterday and if you could see the forum stats you would understand my concerns. The thread has now been moved into the forum news board so delete what ever you feel you want to. Back to work still only in Taunton. Dave

Dave Changed my mind now having reviewed it and spotted that the thread is started with a post by you and mine are amongst the more sensible posts! In fact the 'rant thread' is probably the wrong place for such sensible posts as all of my posts were clearly trying to put an end to the war of attrition that had developed during the day! Glad you've pointed me in the direction of the Forum News Board though. Loads of interesting stuff there that I have never seen. Navigating around the forum is like exploring the Vatican museums with a new and unexpected gem around every corner. Only in Taunton? It's ok for you part timers! I expect you'll be home by 4pm whereas I will finish my last job in Tavistock at about 7pm home about 7.45pm ;D

What exactly was wrong with yesterday? This forum can't afford many more days like yesterday and if you could see the forum stats you would understand my concerns. Why can't it afford many more days like yesterday; and why won't you let us see the forum stats so we can understand your concern? If you could clarify these statements we'd all have a much better understanding of the problems you face and do our best to eradicate/solve them.
