I was speaking to the Chipstead Chairman and directors after the match in the Gulls Nest and when I asked their thoughts on the match they said they thought it was a fair result and said that our fitness was far greater thier`s.
After telling the that I`m a member of this certain forum they asked if I could put a messege on the forum to every Torquay fan who stayed behind after the match and appauled the Chipstead Team: "Thank you all for showing your appreciation to the Chipstead players after the match". The directors want to thank you for your appreciation and also said "We will be following you in the FA Cup. One of our upporters each year creates a book and publishes, the book contains all of Chipsteads FA Cup games, when we do get knocked out of the cup (ineavitably) the supporter then follows the team that beats them in the cup (This time he will be following Torquay) till we get knocked out and whoever dose knock Torquay out he will follow that team. He will continue this till the FA Cup is over. When the FA Cup is over he will publish the book and any money made will go to charity"
Its really nice to hear that, even from a semi-pro sides directors. They gave it a really good go and pushed us at times today. They are 3 or 4 games behind everyone else in thier league and have an away game on Monday night; so good luck to them. Your a credit to your club.
Also after speaking to some of our directors they would love for the Chipstead directors and players to come along and watch us if we reach Wembley this season.
So again the Chipstead directors and Chairman wold like to thank you for you hosbitality and aprreciation today and good luck for the rest of the season and we deserve to go up.
I would like to thank the Chipstead directors, players and fans who came down today for their honesty, effort (they put in 100% and that is all you can ask from both teams). They said that today was thier biggest day and thought that we were great hosts and I really would like to than them for that and good luck for the rest of the season. I do hope you do well in the league
P.S. I`ll do my report later while I type it out properly before I post.

Great post Joe. A post that conveys what football and sport generally is all about. At the end it is all down to two opponents giving it their all, even if one opponent is of a lesser calibre than the other; when it is all over showing respect to the opposition and being gracious in either victory or defeat. That's what sportsmen do, always have done and hopefully always will do. People who aren't sportsmen do exactly what Dave highlighted in his last post. People like that are an embarrassment to those who can actually "walk the walk" rather than merely "talk the talk"Do they even possess the common sense to realise that without an opponent there is no game? I don't think so. I don't think they even take a second to contemplate how much time, money and effort those Chipstead fans put into following their team away from home much further than they are usually used to travelling. Remember with an average home gate of just 122, their average away trip is merely 35 miles. It ill serves the reputation of OUR club for little scrotes like that to abuse the opposition and THAT is exactly why I object most strongly to the setting up of "Banter Forums" on fans' websites. That may come over as old fashioned and stodgy, but I make no apology for that. I'm the type that would have broken your grannies leg on the pitch, but once the game was over I'd shake your hand......................and then let you buy me a drink!!!!

Good post Joe, and it's nice to hear of positive comments from the Chipstead board. I thought they, as your post says, lacked the fitness to compete with us for the whole of 90 minutes. We were too quick for them and I feel they gave us too much space. There was 15 minutes after their goal when they looked like scoring again, but nothing came of it, fortunately. I also would like to give a thumbs up to the Chipstead number 6 (Rooney!) and the goalie, who waved and clapped whenever the popside were singing about them. It made hte day more enjoyable, so thanks. I would like to see Chipstead do well in future, after the way they played today and those post-match comments. Well done.

Don't you think that it is a shame that the Chipstead directors cannot read this forum for themselves ? As I said earlier this week, this site is a great advertisement for our club with its quality standard of posts, and something that could be shared with the wider football community at large. And notice I said "read", not necessarily "post".
I was sat just in front of Chipstead's directors and they came over as a really decent bunch and they were clearly enjoying their big day out. One had a video camera and was taking some odd clips, and was delighted when he had captured their goal on video. I think smaller clubs on the whole seem to have good morals, both at board level and their supporters, and I get put off from all that hatred and nasty gesturing etc. you often see in the crowds at Premiership level.

swangull, I understand your views and partly share them, I will give this some thought, so rest assured you words will not fall on deaf ears.
The real problem Is that the way the forum Is now, it really Is working so well and It Is since I set It this way that Its gone from strength to strength and like Merse said and I do agree, If It Is not broke don't try to fix It.

That sounds fair to me, Dave. Ultimately it is your decision how you feel it is best to run this site. Afterall you're the one putting all the graft in on a daily basis so do what you feel is right. We're the ones who benefit from all your hard work and dedication. I'm pleased you have taken my last post as constructive criticism and nothing more than that. I suppose I see the internet as a place for sharing, but I respect where you're coming from.

Swangull, I have always said this Is not my forum, Its the members forum, I wanted a forum that I really wanted to be a part Off, be member on a forum, run the way I would like It to be run and that Is why I set It up.
While I do have the controls to play with, It will always be the members who will play their part In what and how things happen On the forum. That Is why I have said I run an open forum, nothing hidden and everything I do on here can be questioned and I will always answer.
I will not get everything right, but I will always listen and It will never be a case Of what I want Or that I must be right no matter what, I do not work that way.
You would be surprised how many password requests show up in the logs on the forum, there has been a few today, this now seems normal. This place Is so very important to me, I set It up and could have ended up looking like a fool, to even try and think I could get members, while another long established forum Is running.
Now getting people to log In Is not an attempt to get them to post, there will always be some who will only ever read and won't post for many reasons. Some may fear the replies they may get, others have posted on other forums and got upset, so are just happy to read now.
I do feel that having to log in, those who have not posted may just start posting, knowing that It will only be the members who will read the post.Maybe I 'm wrong and I will open this up In a poll sometime later, but for now I thank you for your views and never be afraid to make them.

Lets hope the site will continue the same has It has been doing for the last few weeks. Dave R

Thanks Dave for listening and giving another way a try. Knowing very little about running a website I assume you can still monitor how many guests are viewing your website, and compare it to how many members normally view it ? As I keep saying this website makes great reading and is a great advert for TUFC. I like the idea that a football supporter from any club can read (not necessarily post) about any other club. For example now would be an appropriate time for an Evesham fan to get a feel what our club is all about and vice-versa.

No problems swangull, as I said It will always be a members forum, where the members can ask and put their thoughts forward on how the forum runs and works. I will always listen and act If I can, Its the Torquay Fans Forum way

Dave you you have the option to allow guests to view the site, but in order to post you need to register (become a member)??
I visit a few forums on all different topics. Most of the time it's for information purposes and I have no wish to post.
I think a fair few do this on our site aswell until the time they cant resist anymore and hit the Reply button.

Sorry Merse, I just couldn't resist putting this on. Yes, I know I've gone back on my word yet again. In this instance I will take all the flak you've got. Have just been on the Chipstead web site and this message was there:
Chipstead would like to thank Torquay supporters, officials etc for the incredible welcome and hospitality they showed us throghout the day on Saturday. Good luck and best wishes for a good cup run and a return to the football league.
Not only that, did you know they actually have 14, yes FOURTEEN, teams, all the way down to under 7s. Plus a Saturday morning training session. I think that is absolutely incredible for such a small club. That is what "football in the community" should be about. No wonder they only average 120 for home games. Everyone is out there playing somewhere else!
