I think it's Phil's alternative contribution to timbo's programme thread.
variety is the spice of life!! I'm sure Barton downs will have plenty to contribute on this as he spends half his life on a train ;D

Shame I can't find the main book only its little brother. I will try and post another page later.

One of the only complete set of trains 'spotted', the mighty Warship, which were introduced in 1958 weighing 70 tons - all 19 spotted. The diesels then, seemed to the young boy I was, as having great character. seem to recall that Swindon was the main graveyard for trains on route for London. As you can see 2 were cabbed - happy days.

Going off topic (not worth starting a new thread?) - did anyone see the James May programme tonight on BBC2 where he and some kids built a life size 'Airfix' Spitfire? made me want to go out and buy an Airfix kit myself, although I think I have an unmade 'half-track' in the loft.
Airfix, what a great hobby and what a great shop we had in Mansells model shop in Paignton. There was also the model shop at the top of Ellacombe (name escapes me).
Happy days indeed. ;D

Airfix kits Phil? how many did we get bought for xmas? they were not to expensive and there were so many to choose from. I was rubbish at making them and got glue everywhere where I should not have got it.
I was also rubbish at painting them, so I ended up hating opening a present and finding yet another one inside. I can't remember the name of the model shop in Torquay, but I did love such shops, not for airfix mind you, but model trains and cars. The Corgi cars were the best and I had loads of them.

Great viewing for those who can't be arsed with X-Pap Dancing Brother Celebrity Crud

Great viewing for those who can't be arsed with X-Pap Dancing Brother Celebrity Crud i thought both of the programmes were great. something really interesting amongst all the dross. i actually looked up from the laptop to watch it!! Mansell's was a top shop and one of our members will definitely back that up as it was his Dad's shop!! i spent most of my time in a model shop in Brixham which is now a clothes shop they had everything from Airfix to hornby to Scalextrix. I spent many an hour in there.

My (at the time) sadistic older brother was massively into airfix planes etc when he was younger, i was never really interested in war stuff to be honest........thinking of airfix kits even now makes me shudder. It all happened one sunday night bathtime, when my brother rather cruelly mocked the size of my manhood (well i was 6 and he was a quite mature 8 at the time) He said i shouldn't worry as he had found a "magic potion" that would make it grow and grow. I was up for that, so later on he got this tiny tube and squirted some on the end of my "old chap" it was airfix glue! Within about 5 seconds absolute bloody AGONY, it felt like it was on fire.....i spent the rest of the night in tears sat outside the bathroom with a ice cold flannel over it! Good job the yanks didn't know about that stuff at Guantanamo bay!
