Deltic on show recently, gutted I missed it I never did get hauled by one of those beasts back in the day. They always seemed to operate over on the east coast main line. Lovely to see some are still in running order though.

Deltic on show recently, gutted I missed it I missed it too. A pity as I've not seen one down this way for yonks. A day trip to London as a kid would not have been complete without a fleeting visit to Kings Cross to see a few of these beasts in action. SAD Happy Days

Spent a day last week travelling on the West Somerset Railway, which is the longest Heritage Line in the UK (20 miles or so). I am doing the Watchet Festival on August bank holiday as a guest of The Leylines who are the Saturday night headliners on the Udder Stage. Headliners on the main stage during the festival are UB40, The Feeling, and The Levellers. Have booked a holiday cottage with a couple of friends and I noticed Doniford Halt private railway station is about 100 metres from where I am staying. I am intending to give it a go and I think it is the same West Somerset Railway. For the beer drinkers amongst us I have done the South Devon Railway run from Totnes to Staverton (you can also go from Buckfastleigh) a couple of times where they hold a beer festival on the platform every May and August (bank holiday weekends). Excellent. Train spotting as the choo choos pull in every 30 minutes with a pint of beer in hand. Next Saturday (16th) I am on the other steam train run from Paignton to Kingswear. Again a beer festival (starts at 1200) right next to the railway station and free entry if you travel by train. Return by train to Paignton or for me probably by ferry to Totnes (either link in with the excellent Stagecoach Gold bus service which goes through Ivybridge every 30 minutes). Apparently no beards allowed!

The beer around the area is also excellent!
