Jon, any business would indeed stab their granny in the back, so to speak. Ask anyone who has had their car serviced and got the "extras". Called a plumber lately? Asked a builder to give you an estimate? Consulted a solicitor, dentist, accountant? Been to the 3rd world and seen the way western businesses treat the locals? How about talked to your Bank ,cos they are really fair arn't they? Anyone dealing with that bunch know they would not only stab her but charge you for it. I think i might have a tad more experience of "real life" and had the blinkers well and truely ripped off than you mate by the looks of it. (No offence mate, i don't mean to come across as pompous) The real world IS full of people who will turn you over without a thought. You didn’t mean to come across as pompous, but you made a damned fine job of it. If it makes you feel better, your Dad is bigger than my Dad and you can p*ss higher than I can. Well done. You must be very proud. Of course I know that there are people who will rip you off. Surprisingly, given my alleged inexperience of “real life”, I do know a garage that will do a good job at a fair price (if you understand that they have to recover their overheads on the hourly rate). I know plumbers who will do a good job at a fair price (if you understand that good plumbers are scarce and so quite properly command a decent wage). I know company directors who would indeed honour the spirit of a contract. If you say you’ve never encountered any of these I would have to believe you but please don’t tell me what I have or haven’t experienced. Tony Boyce was worth several millions when he passed away. I don't think he ever shafted anyone, broke his word or acted unethically. Are you aware that our current Vice-Chairman made his living as a specialist in “ethical investments” before he switched to organic farming? He could have made more money dealing in arms, booze and fags. I know for a fact that decent men with very strong principles number at least two, almost certainly four and very probably more than that on TUFC’s board. If you believe this kind of person does not exist, try going to Plainmoor – you might have those blinkers removed. If you did have more of an ear to the ground at Plainmoor, you might have a better understanding of the issues that other people are discussing.

Ok Jon, I'm not having a go at the plainmoor board. Blimey, i feel like i'm going around in circles here. I think this conversation would be easier over a beer, face to face with body language, eye contact, voice inflection rather than over the net. Unfortunately that won't happen for a while.
Cyber pubs just ain't the same. But, without this vehicle for debate i would be stuffed for news and views. I do miss sitting upstairs in laces before the game with Ian, Bob, Andy, Jon, Rich et al. We rarely agreed with eachother over tactics, player selection, ability etc. But over a beer it was just mates having a rant. Often hilarious, ridiculous and irrelevent. But part of the matchday buzz.

Fair play - it's easy to cross wires over a keyboard. It does get my goat when people trot out the urban myth that all businessmen are conmen. Who would be pay out the public sector pensions if it weren't for the entrepreneur? If we had Robert Maxwell or Keith Haslam as Chairman, it wouldn't even be worth raising the subject of this thread. It is precisely because we have good men at the helm that is worth making the point that we would rather stick to our principles - even if it means that the progress onwards and upwards might be a tad slower than it could be if we didn't bother.

Reading this It seems you boys are getting you pants all In a twist. I can't see that anyone has said the board has done anything wrong, only hoping they have done everything correctly, as you would expect people In their position to do.

It was put to me that this thread, was bordering on the point Of liable. I have taken the time to fully read every post on It and do not agree with those views. Not one has stated that the board has done anything wrong, the main theme has been, a wish that everything was done In a proper way. The way we would expect our board to go about doing its business.
I have been given some information about the events surrounding this topic, as I have not heard this information anywhere else, It Is not for me to put It on this forum. Having that information, I can see why and how thing have been done and feel as we would have expected, everything Is in order.
Now I know Merse keeps going on about commercial sensitivity, etc, but nothing I have heard, could not have been told to Dave Thomas, who could have written It up In the Herald. Its the same old story, If the fans only know what they hear on the ground, then more often than not, they will add up two plus two and make five.
The only way to stop this happening is to give out information, If you don't that you can expect nothing else, it really is that simple.I do not know the landlord and do not have his views, It could be that he fully agrees with what I have been told, Or he could tell a different story, I always believe that to make any fair judgment, one should always listen to both sides and then decide from there.
As someone who never felt that Boots should have ever been put in the hands Of a landlord on any lease, I firmly believe that the club having Boots back, will only benefit It. My view has always been, that any profits from Boots should go into the club.I do not know how many fans use Boots, Is it only on matchdays? does It do much trade on week nights?.
I do believe that fans would use It more If they knew the profit from ever pint, was going to help the club, as some who spent years as an entertainer, I can see some really good ways to boost the trade at Boots.
Week nights could have TUFC quiz nights, other nights could be reruns of our best matches played. Maybe this happens already, I do not know, but I do feel there Is a great opportunity to tie the fans more into the club and what better way to start than over a pint.
