After this game has been postponed twice due to Stockport’s pitch being unfit to play the game on, the game will now go ahead at Macclesfield’s ground. The only slight concern will once again be the weather, as a cold spell is forecast and the pitch could stand a chance of being frozen.
I’m sure the game will go ahead and the only concern is we now is that we may not have the good away support we get at so many away games for this one.
Steve Breed of the travel club said in the Herald Express he feels we may only have 50 fans at the match; even some very regular users of the travel club are not going to this game. Steve feels the gate may be around the 2000 mark, I think it could be much lower than that, unless a good few Macclesfield fans decide to come along and watch the match.
I expect we will have nearly 100 fans in the away end, we have many fans that live around those parts and I’m sure many of them will take the opportunity to see the team play, even more so as they may not have seen the likes of Tomson, Smith and zebs now he is back with us.
With the possibility that Stockport fans will boycott this game as a way of protest about what is going on at their club, it may well be a very quite and poor atmosphere in the ground. I wonder how we would feel if we had to play what should be a home tie up at St James Park, I know I would not be too happy about that ever happening.
With the club reporting it has cost them a figure estimate around the £6.000 mark already due to the two cancellations, the best way to turn this whole sorry affair into something good, is to make sure we win the game, collect the prize money and prepare then for the next round home game against Brighton.
This game I’m sure will be very welcome for Scott Bevan after looking forward to getting back in goal in a game for us, only to see the games get cancelled, he will have his fingers crossed the game will go ahead and both he and Bucks can see if is injury has fully cleared up.
With Zebs not being able to play we may well see Bucks start with Sills and Benyon upfront and we may also see Hargreaves given a rest and Thompson get a start in the middle with Wroe. Nico may also get the nod for the left back spot.
The mood of our players will be very positive and they will believe they can win this game and so do I, it may not be pretty on a very cold night and it may not be a high scoring game as it was at home against Darlington, but I’ll be happy with us winning by the one goal and then look forward to the next game against Brighton.
