Deeply upset about what has happened to our forum recently, I know all my fellow regularly members love the forum and for what it has always been. I will not let this forum be ruined I have put to much time into and it means so much to me. I will have to decide the best way to put the TFF back on track and I know you will respect any actions I feel I will have to take.

Hmmm! I did say, whilst discussing Saturdays match over a beer, that I thought Poke looked a bit uncertain at times and got roundly slagged off (in a friendly way). Perhaps he's not at 100% and needs a rest? Tonights mistake was pretty unusual and undoubtedly cost us 2 points...

I still feel we need far more bite in midfield and Mansell surely would give us that? If Dario Gradi has got them playing in his tried and trusted manner, then retaining possession of the ball will be more important Dave, as we will find that we are without it for longer periods than is normal in this league. So for me, the "ball winning" potential of Mansell is then offset by his profligacy when in possession. Give me Wroe and Thompson for this one. Give me Cox and Smith at fullback and Branston and Charnock in the middle of the defence. I would play Mansell out wide on the right, Thomson out left and leave Zebroski and Benyon to sort it out up front either as a pair or a "one in front of one" as we have played the last two games. Will there be a new striker? Who knows so I have "selected" from what we have and we have a fine young energetic player like O'Kane to come on and maintain the energy levels after an hour or so. right there merse, not retaining possesion in the second half cost us dear, nobody wanted to hold the ball up to disrupt crewes rhythm,we sat back too deep, absolutely suicidal again,we just hit the panic button all of sudden, and teams can almost smell it,i would have taken a point tonight, but after the event, very disappointed as crewe were there for the taking. We have to wise up very quickly now, simple as that

It is not like Michael Poke to let the boys down. I'm sure he is totally gutted.
Perhaps too many sleepless nights with a baby around the house causing a problem. Myself and Loyalgull should know about that ;D
Perhaps a couple of games off with Bevan stepping in may help. This of course would also help with the number of loanees we have

This of course would also help with the number of loanees we have your right stuartb, but we also know what a great goalie he is,i feel sorry for him tonight,he has saved us on many occassions hasnt he?how can he be expected to command his area when every tom dick and harry plays to deep and on top of the area he is supposed to command? maybe he doesnt trust the defence enough and its shot his confidence? desite signing branston i dont trust our defence one bit, havent done so for a couple of seasons,we seem to find it hard to do the simple things,a lot of the goals we concede are quite frankly laughable. One thing for sure, branston will sort em out,he will make em or break em

As far as points won and points lost, their's no doubt that Poke is still in "credit".
Very rare for him to make a mistake like this, i firmly believe that Bucks should and will stick with him for the time being.
After the dreadfully dissapointing defeat on saturday, their seemed plenty of positives to take out of tonights point, doesn't appear anything wrong with the spirit......Zebs scored a good goal, he needed that one i reckon.......... and we sounded much better defensively, Branston seemed to be heading most of it away, Robertson also sounded more dominant, i think playing alongside a guy like Branston might well do Robbo a lot of good.......he needs to be more imposing.
Looking forward to Hereford........

12 pages on a matchday thread - another forum down again by any chance?
I see the usual miserable sods are slagging the performance off having not been at the game. Man on radio said so must be true...
5th game of the season for me tonight and far and away the best performance I have seen (this includes victories over Darlington and Chesterfield). This was a decent Crewe side - they carved us apart on a couple of occasions with some lovely one touch stuff but by the end were resorting to pumping the ball into the box - that is how well we had defended.
Effectively the game hinged on Michael Poke's inability to come for any ball in the box - the offside header from Zola cannot have been from further than 4 yards out - he got away with that. Then a hopeful ball into the box which for some God unknown reason he let bounce and we find ourselves snatching a draw from the jaws of victory.
The positives
Considering this team is on a poor run results wise there is certainly no lack of confidence - we came out of the dressing room at full pelt in both halves and had Crewe struggling to cope with our attacks. Some great football played too for the purists amongst us.
Chris Zebroski - keep him fit and in this kind of mood and we will score goals - he was everywhere, won most things in the air, brought players into the game and tracked back, winning the ball most of the time. And I will not see a better goal all season. By some stretch man of the match.
The defence - Poke had one save to make in the game. One. This was down to blocks, clearances, and communication. Guy Branston is exactly what we needed, big, ugly and most importantly loud. He bollocked anyone who wasn't doing their job and praised when a good job was done.
Tyrone Thompson - broke up attacks, played the simple ball - didn't give way free kicks.
The negatives
The result.
Nicky Wroe just doesn't seem on his game - he's playing deeper which may be affecting him, but he gave the ball away a few times by trying too difficult a ball and doesn't seem to be enjoying it.

Interesting comments about Poke from tonights match. I thought something just didn't seem right at Barnet. He seemed reluctant to come for anything and at times didn't look that commanding. Bevan on the other hand when I've seen him play is the exact opposite. Having said that I think that Poke is the slightly better keeper overall and he won't be dropped just because of one mistake.

Would agree with yorkgulls summary. Zebroski restored to the middle was a class act tonight and that goal was top drawer. Nailed on Man of the Match.
Tyrone Thompson played well breaking up the play of a Crewe side that knew how to pick a pass, as one would expect.
Smithy and Cox (second half) again looked assured and had the measure of their men. (much more so than Robertson at right back in the first half - I don't like him in that position) Branston - shorter than I remember - won many a battle in the air, and certainly added a bit of steel and orthodoxy to our defending. He'll do, I reckon.
Jake Thompson, with occassional end product, gave their defence a torrid time all night and seems back to the form (having done well at Barnet last week, also) that many purred about when he first came to us.
All in all a good performance, though came away feeling robbed as Poke made an almighty howler as described above. I'll let him off. But it was a proper stinker.
A point I and any realist Gull would have taken before the game and some neat pass and move flowing football by both sides that made the game very easy on the eye. And an award winning chippy over the road from a very nice ground by League 2 standard.

I'm glad you made that point to highlight my pre-match views, yet I will probably still be the target of abuse from certain people on here who see insight as arrogance and straight forward putting of views as pompous. The point you make about dropping deeper and deeper is a vaild one for it probably one of the hardest things for a coach to stop his team from doing during a match and also something that is usually far easier to spot from the sidelines than from the midst of the action out there on the pitch. I think you will find that gradually the team will respond to the dominance of Guy Branston in this respect, and he will impose himself on them to keep their shape and tight enough to close the opposition down for the whole ninety minutes. I was interested to hear on here of the dislike of Branston in the Burton dressing room ~ good! I hope he is equally as overbearing and bullying here, for it is sides that have too many softies (both physically and more importantly mentally) that show this traight of losing the initiative and the upper hand on a regular basis and these are the sides that then fail to see good performances off and end up bleating that they failed to win again even though "they played so well"We have had these sort of characters in the club before over the years, and they have always ended up imposing their assertive personalities over the side................... John Benson in the sixties, Mal Lucas in the seventies, Duncan Forbes (briefly on loan from Norwich City) in the eighties and Bruce Rioch too; as well as Phil Lloyd and Jim McNichol in the nineties. They tend to be recruited at times such as our side is going through at the moment and that can't be coincidental can it? Players who run bleating to the manager and fall apart on the arrival of such characters because they find them "oppressive", generally reveal themselves to the boss as the ones who need to be weeded out and got rid of in my opinion.

No need for you to apologise for anything, Dave...how can you stop idiots joining who just want to whinge and are incapable have engaging in rational discussion? The other site just acts as a useful flystrip, and the sooner they get up and running again, the better. If you scroll through most match threads there will be an element of those who are incapable of just sitting and listening without constantly resorting to the keyboard and posting think aloud inanities full of knee jerk reaction...................and that element's natural home is .not.nitbuttorquayfans.com Other throw away comments like "BSP Here We Come" and instant demands to drop Poke are equally silly in my opinion, some people have got to learn to realise that there are TWO sides out there on the pitch and that games are hard and difficult to win, but will not be winnable with the amount of panic and "headless chicken syndome" from the management that swims around some listeners heads during matches. The standard and tone of this site is definitely lower for the influx of less thoughtful and insightful posters from another site, it's like being in a pub that has closed down it's play room at the moment isn't it. Give me quality over quantity anytime!

I too noticed that at Barnet, and perhaps the imposition of a new born in the household is causing mental tiredness to the player who plays in the most "mentally intensive" of positions. I remember sitting down with our old keeper Vince O'Keefe one afternoon when he was going through pergatory with the Plainmoor crowd who showed him that same unforgiving and stupid side to them they reserve for former Exeter City arrivals. The same nastiness that they showed last season to Wayne Carlisle and always to Paul Buckle. He told me how a goalkeeper needs to spend so much of the week thinking about his game so intently, so that any intrusion can have devastating effects on his peformance. Once the crowd grudgingly got off Vince's back, his performances regained the impressive level that he had shown at Exeter before his arrival, and eventually won him a transfer from Plainmoor to Blackburn Rovers. It's somethng the manager, goalkeeping coach and player need to sit down in the office and discuss quietly and constructively, to discover whether or not this particular goalkeeper would respond positively or negatively to a rest for the immediate future.......................that's the importance of having (a) two keepers of good standard and (b) a proper goalkeeping coach. Thoughtful application of management skills, not knee jerk reaction is the way forward!

Despite the recent results I strongly feel we are moving forward. Against Burton we played poor and deserved to lose. The last 3 games the team showed confidence and a good mentality. They show nothing of the fear that a lot of our fans show when posting on here (and on dotnet).
That must be down to Paul Buckle who keeps them in a positive mood despite the blows they had to take on the chin. Anyone who's played the game himself knows that it's very difficult to keep up the morale when you're on a bad run of results.
From listening to the radio there was not a player who was hiding and not up for the fight. Poke made an error but how many times has he saved us and showed he is a top goalkeeper on this level. Don't know if Bevan is the answer, he's not fully fit I've read somewhere here?
I fully trust the lads to go to Edgar Street and battle for a positive result against Hereford.

It might be that Micheal Poke is a bit fatigued at the moment and in need of a freshner so he can come back to the fore much stronger and together! I can`t see a problem with giving our Scotty a go for a game or two!
