Brilliant Stuart, so good in fact I'm going to give you a vote toward poster of the week. Only checking it quickly I spotted 41 and will have another look at it tomorrow. Each one a classic from Evil Woman that happens to be the only song that gives me what I call a musical orgasm( check out the bit in the middle just as it is about to go back to the singing) to Eldorado. Dave, Not sure if you've ever come across them, but one of my all time favourite groups are an American band called Grandaddy - sadly split now, but the lead singer, Jason Lytle is still recording. He always cites ELO as as his number one influence and if you have a moment or two I'd recommend checking him/them out. Arguably, their strongest album was called The Sophtware Slump. Seeing as I'm on the thread, I'm currently listening to High Violet, the latest album from The National.

jeremyb No I have never heard of that band but will make sure I check them out and listen to some of their songs.
It was the song Living Thing that woke me up to ELO and when I then went and bought their earlier albums where it really was more like real rock overtures, I fell in love with their music.
Thanks to my mate in Holland Rolf Polder who is a member on here, I was able to make a CD for every single album they made. I had them all on vinyl but only a few were ever released on CD.
He found and down loaded every track as an MP3 file and posted them over to me and then I put them on the CD's he even found all the art work as well.

Tonight there's been a growing crescendo coming through the open window of the sounds of the Vuvuzela.............seems like some bright spark entrepreneur in the Seven Sisters Road is knocking 'em out in the colours of your favourite nation ~ and around here that was always going to spell trouble. Not unpleasant trouble, but exuberant displays of loyalty for the nations of the World Cup and personally, although I hate the sound of the bloody things;I find it a lovely example of the locality's tolerance of different cultures and of the very FACT that most of the competing nations enjoy a degree of support around these parts. I noticed too that the local Bangladeshi kids are rooting for Brazil AND England ~ if the evidence of them blowing two of the ruddy things at once is anything to go by!

Damn this quote facility! Maybe Dave could PM me an idiots guide to quoting people!
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the new National album. Whilst I am definitely enjoying it, I don't feel it improves on either Boxer or Alligator. Saw them at Koko a few years ago and, poor acoustics aside, loved them. Will check out Delphic.
Back on the Grandaddy subject, I was reading a heartwarming tale over the weekend about a Grandaddy talkscape forum rasing money for the lead singer's sister's cancer treatment.
Basically, she was diagnosed with a walnut sized brain tumor and was very seriously ill. As the family have little income, a fan decided to collate every one of the bands rarities, unrleased music, demo cassetes and all sorts of previously unavailable material.
The object was to turn everything into one big bundle and offer it to fans for a recommended donation. As the campaign went on, more and more fans came forward with little additions to add to the project and 1 year on since its launch, over $4,000 has been raised. Allowing for the fact that other than people's time and goodwill, this has cost nothing to produce, die-hard fans (such as myself, I ordered mine yesterday) have got a fantastic package while helping to raise funds for a very ill 'family member'
I truly belive this shows the power of the online community (like ours here) and I thought it was a touching story worth sharing here.

Jeremy I have to be honest and say that I've never heard the new album or "Boxer" until today. I gave them a whirl on the strength of a mate's recommendation. I listened to the new album first. It's a bit Tindersticks meets Interpol meets a lot of dope and the Red House Painters. I don't mind it but I don't think I appreciate it now at this stage in my life as I would've done in my early twenties when I was miserable and poor. The Boxer album is better as it's just a bit more upbeat and melodic.

Some surprisingly decent music coming out of the telly recently.
Hocus Pocus by Focus and then "Move over Rover, and let Jimi take over."
How many song titles belong to not one but two all-time classics? Jimi or Crazy Arthur? Tough call.
