Here you go Dave -as promised ....
Instead of doing a full blown match report, as you'll get lots of them, I thought I would just give my opinions of the players. Obviously other's may see it differently.
Bevan - (9) - What a 'keeper! Although he had few and far between saves to make, he makes for an awesome goalie. He looks solid in goal and I don't get that panic (that you sometimes do with Ricey!) that he may 'cock' up. What a save he made in the 58th minute as well - well worth looking into signing.
Woods - (7)- Many may know that he is not my favourite player. In fact that may be an understatement. However, I am a firm believer in 'praise where it is due' and all that, and admittedly he had a good game. The save he pulled off in the second half when Bevan was outside the area was phenomenal. The ball was obviously going in and Woods just appeared from nowhere to block what was practically there most threatening shot on goal.
Robertson - (7) - Really deserved his goal, which came just after I turned to my dad and said "How great would it be to see a CH like Robbo score". Even more pleasing to see how thoroughly chuffed he was when it went in. Worked hard and a major improvement from last season.
Mansell - (8) - Awesome as usual. He is EVERYWHERE. Great tackles and just when you think they’re about to break away, up he pops to scarper their plans. Again great passion.
Hargreaves - (9) - Another candidate for MOM. Always puts in so much effort and tries hard. I am so glad he is our captain, as he controls the team well on the pitch. He also seemed to win practically everything in the air today.
Nicholson - (7) - Good crosses and again Nico is always ALWAYS important for our set plays.
Carlilse - (9) - A close second to MOM. He seems to have either a brilliant match or a match where he doesn't really 'do' much or make much impact. Today was definitely NOT the latter. He played superbly.
Wroe - (10) - MOM - Definitely (in my opinion) man of the match. Broke away brilliantly on several occasions and had a few attempts at scoring. Was very pleased when he scored as he thoroughly deserved it.
Dsane - (3) Other than turning up to the match and and a few good passes I’m not quite sure what he did well. Looked poor and anyone who watched this game could not be left in doubt about why he is up for emergency loan.
Sills - (7) Passion. Sills always offers much entertainment with his theatrics. If no-ones noticed, whenever he gets a little knock or someone leaning on his shoulders-he goes down. It makes for brilliant watching. Keep it up Sillsy Obviously the chances created, passes in the box, take-downs and key headers keep Sills on top form.
Green - (7) - Started off a bit slow, and thought "oh god he's going to miss everything and look slow". However, after he got going turned out to be very impressive and was unlucky really not to get a goal.
Overall I would say a cracking game. Thoroughly worth travelling down from Stoke for. After watching us outplay Wrexham in the first half last Saturday it was brilliant to watch the same happen this week. After what was a bit of a slow start we pulled away and dominated completely. They had a few chances but nothing spectacular. Although we did have a few shots on goal and (in my opinion) should have easily been 1-0 by half time, we faltered by not converting. OR should I say Dsane NOT converting. He made some brilliant opportunities for himself but his shot on target seemed fairly poor today. - Although others may argue that it "did just not drop for him". In the second half it again seemed a bit slow for the first 10 minutes or so. However, it soon picked up and ALL of the action was predominantly in our half.
Was also GREAT to hear many fans in the popside singing "Paul Buckle's Yellow Army" for the first time in a while. This roll we appear to be on at the moment (please don't let that have jinxed it!!) is great and shows that while we may have had a rocky start, we are now pulling forward. PB has got us through that rough patch and after these consecutive good results, we can only hope that we continue onwards and upwards.
I'm hoping now to hear "Buckle give us a wave, Buckle Buckle give us a wave" on Thursday. So come on guys, let's get behind the lads on Thursday and show Paul Buckle our support. - I'm sure he would be thrilled and confidence boosted if he could hear his named chanted once again...
