Games against FGR always takes me back to the game we played them in the FA Cup, when we had Big Nev in goal and an event that happen the day before the game. Long before that day however a very small boy who would walk around singing hit me with your rhythm stick(Ian Drury)was at a wedding reception with me,where strangly they held a dancing competition and this very young boy won and impressed everyone with his moves.
Then as a young man he was dancing for the Radio One show at different venues including the one that came to Paignton Green and also employed in a local night club as a podium dancer, for the ladies entertainment.Girls would fight to stand around the podium and as is so often the case some thug got jealous that his lady was by the podium and not standing with him.
Ant wok me up at 3am, his face was a mess, the guy had waited out side for him and head butted him so hard in the face he broke all the front teeth and they were then bent up into the roof his mouth. We had to seek urgent dental treatment the next morning that meant that Ant was not going to be able to enjoy any pies at the game.
The game itself we were outplayed for much of it and big Nev kept us in the game, my first real view of this legend from behind the goal and he got to shots that looked certain goals viewing from behind. Then in the second half we scored and FGR seamed to collapse and we went on to score a few more.
We were the big league club and they were just a non league club and how times have changed, I think thats why many struggle to really come to terms that we are at this time in this small time league.
On to Tuesday night and we need to see our team come out fighting from the whistle and try and get on top early, we can't afford to start slowly and end up giving FGR any goal starts and then find we are chasing the game to try and get back into it.
Is Hargreaves suspension only for one game? if so then as he was missed so much in our last game having him back with see the midfield much stronger than it was without him. Green has to start for me and I would have Sills on the bench and play Christie.
Its not going to be an easy game, none seem to be in this league, but if we are going to keep our play-off hopes alive we must start getting better results and points on the board, or else we will see the teams around us disappearing into the distance.

Carayol and Green will start this one. As a backlash to the goings on at Rockingham Road, I expect the 1200 hardy souls at Plainmoor to be treated to a Tim Sills masterclass in finishing with a Green channel cherry on top. 1-0

Carayol and Green will start this one. As a backlash to the goings on at Rockingham Road, I expect the 1200 hardy souls at Plainmoor to be treated to a Tim Sills masterclass in finishing with a Green channel cherry on top. 1-0 I haven't really given much thought to the opposition before. I was always a lets try a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3/5-3-2 etc, Play Benyon more, drop Dsane, bring Stevens on after an hour etc. However, after yesterday the penny dropped on how IMPORTANT it is to have the other team watched and have a good understanding about how they will play and who they have. Before i would have said lets just pick our team and let them worry about us, but that is not the case if there is going to such a mismatch as there was yesterday between their defenders and our starting attackers. Actually i learnt TWO very good lessons yesterday. The team line up needs to consider the 'horses for courses' option. The position you watch a game from DOES matter. The Altrincham game would have been an ideal opportunity to play 3 up front, so if Forest Green were to play a similar game then i would like to see the 3 up front option that has been discussed at length on here. However if their back four has an average height of 7ft 3 and are built like Irish brickies then a more conservative 4-4-2 with Christie alongside Sills or Green.

I believe that FGR will not provide the "roll-over" that we hope for. Although I felt we had the beating of them last season, players like Mangan and Rigoglioso will be dangerous when they get the odd chance - but I firmly believe that they will be very cautious and will leave very little space behind their defence for us to exploit. I don't think that there will be drastic changes to the team - Bucks didn't seem too disappointed by the performance. Perhaps starting with either Christie or possibly Green alongside Sills.
The return of Hargreaves will be a massive boost. I don't believe that Bucks REALLY felt that we didn't miss him yesterday as per his post-match interview.
I would be surprised if we did get only 1,200 on Tuesday, Rob!! I think that we will still see the "hardcore 1,600" (which has shrunk from the "hardcore 1,800" of a couple of years ago!).

As much as it sounds like a really good attacking ploy to put 3 up front. The fact is they tend to get in each others way. There are of course exceptions but we don`t have the quality of player to cope with 3 different runs. I tend to prefer the option of having 2 up front with one from midfield sitting in the hole between the strikers and midfield or being the main offensive midfielder. You only need 2 up front if they work with the support players effectively by offering themselves and varying the angle of their runs. They must though be given good quality service. for me thats what we should be working on not top loading the formation.

It certainly will be a poor crowd if we get over 1500 we will do well. Midweek games are always low and after a loss on saturday people will save there money and watch Torbays other team, Man U are playing Inter.
Apart from the diehards who will always be there can you blame some people for not getting £15/£16 out of the wallets to watch a team perform mostly for just 45mins? Time and time again we hear we didnt perform in one half and didnt get the result we expected. Buckle and the players often say that after one of these performances we need a win and then when they do get it and praise each other they dont maintain that and its back to a one half performance.
I know some people will say "I dont care but if we score in the last minute to win its ok by me" but we have only done that once at home and that was way back in september against Northwich whilst Salisbury, York, Oxford and Kidderminster have all picked up very late points and Coventry dumped us out of the cup.
Fingers crossed if we are one goal up on Forest Green going into the last few minutes we dont concede again!

dazgull, having Man U on the TV will have an impact on the gate, I know I would love to watch the game and after my early starts to my working day, sitting at home on the sofa and watching a top team can seem very tempting.
I may well come home tomorrow night after the game and ask myself why did I go, but I could also come home feeling I'm so glad I did. We had one member who for what he saw as good reasons for himself, decided not to go to our last home game.
OK it may not have been a cracker but I wonder when he saw we won by three goals to one, if he wished he had gone after all. The thing is you never know whats going to happen at any match and I just feel the club does not need anymore fans going missing, so no matter how worn out I feel, I will be there and do my best to support the players on the pitch.

Strongly challenging for the play-offs as we are, the crowd should be in the 2000s If it ended up being the lowest gate and we did get to Wembley, then would be good to say "I was there!" I think the initial Forest Green match this season gave the team a much needed confidence boost. (Sills in goal again anyone? ;D) We didn't lose after that September match until December - against Forest Green with a weakened side in the Setenta Shield. Hopefully a good performance will enable us to push on for the next two and a half months. Wouldn't like to predict the team but would be happy if Benyon and Green both came off the bench and scored again

Right off the the game now with Ant and BIG AL,(my bodyguard ) I hope the radio or Internet coverage works fine for those who are far way and can't make it to the game. I will do a match report of sorts before I go to bed. Take care all and be back on soon. Dave R

Bevan Manse Woods Hodges Nicho Carayol Wroe Hargeaves Green Benyon Sills
I like the personel, but i'm wondering whether it is actually 4-3-3. I'd be susrpised if Carayol was being played as one of 3 in midfield (surely Thompson would have been given that role?) Looks like Green on the left of a 4. Either way, i'm very satisfied with that. Green does lots of work running channels anyway, so he's worth a try out left, and Carayol deserves a go on the right (if that's how it is, probably be Benyon right and Carayol left now!) Pretty confident that will provide plenty of opportunites.

Perfect evening conditions - no wind, fairly mild and the pitch looks great. No excuses tonight! Possibly over-estimated my prediction of a 1600 crowd - there wont be more than 1400 by the look of it! Watch-out for David Brown tonight in the FGR team.
Anyone who went to the 2 games at theirs earlier this season and took the actions of theor players who appeared to be kicking the ball into the crowd deliberately can rest assured that they have done the same tonight. Guess it is just down to lack of shooting abilty rather than them trying to incite the opposition fans!!!

Green simply scored one of the finest goal I have seen at Plainmoor in many years!!! He picked-up the ball around the middle of the pitch towards the Pop and ran past a couple of challenges before arcing the ball past the keeper fro 30 yards - great stuff!
