The Dripping Pan is very close to the Greenwich Meridian (less than a mile away). Can anybody name English grounds which are closer to that line? I've not done the full research but I've one or two in mind (some mentioned in recent threads, others not). I would submit three in London, I couldn't vouch for others outside the capital. To the West, it has to be Leyton Orient whilst to the East it would be Charlton Athletic (the closest) and West Ham United.; and IF the Wet Hamsters new stadium was to be built adjacent to West Ham Station it would indeed be astride the Greenwich Meridian! On the subject of old sporting venues and the previous talk about Hackney Stadium in Waterden Road, I learned today that two hundred years ago the River Lea which flows just across from what would have been Waterden Road was the venue for a "sport" that until today I had never heard of.................. horse swimming! ;D
