It has been a very long time since I walked through my front door, still singing and even dancing once inside, like I have today. If I ever wondered why I support Torquay United, or even why I'm a football fan, then today I got all the answers. To be a part of a game and to watch a team performance like I just have, makes me feel so proud and makes me wonder, just what our team and manager really need to do, to keep some people happy.
I said yesterday I was going to the game with the attitude that we would win the game, its far better to be positive and believe, because if you do anything can happen and today only proved I was right. To the Green knockers I will say this, he got man of the match and fully deserved it, he ran the Blackpool defense ragged the whole game and made and put a way a difficult chance from a tight angle.
Plainmoor was buzzing from the kick-off what a difference a crowd can make, the singing was the very best and the only thing that Blackpool could say they were better at today, was playing the drum. Their drummer was top drawer and our single beat drumming seemed second class, but we soon had the popside singing in full voice and I never heard much from the Blackpool fans for the rest of the game.
We started the game well, but both Wroe and Carlisle were guilty far too often of giving the ball away, so often Wroe had worked hard to get the ball, then let it all down by a poor pass. The good thing was it never really caused us to many problems and I struggle to remember any real saves Bevan had to make during the whole game.
Green did all I expected of him and so much more, his pace gets him to balls, that so often look like they will be the other teams defenders ball, he was having a real battle with their center half, who was a tall blond lad, who did well at times against Green, but as the game went on, Green got the better of him more and more.
I was surprised to see Dsane start the game, he has been out a few games and I was expecting to see out new Bristol City player out on the left wing. Dsane worked hard and played well today, so Bucks got is team spot on today.
Nico was looking up and putting some great balls into space for Green to get on too and that is how we got our goal. A great ball played by Nico and Green ran in behind their defender and cut into wards the goal, the angle was tight, but we placed it into the far corner. I must say I and some near me thought it was going wide, but in it went.
Green ran to the halfway line on the popside to celebrate his goal, It showed in his celebration just how much scoring that goal meant to him and you felt that he was just making the point that he can do it, as I'm sure he must have been aware of some of the things that have been said about him, after the Kiddy game.
We were good value for the lead at half time and just like the Kiddy game I expect Blackpool to come out and have us on the back foot for a while after the restart. Kiddy didn't do it and nor did Blackpool, we were so much in control and If we had won this game by three goals, it would have been fully deserved.
Our defense was rock solid, Woods is having a ball and it shows on his face, Hodges is really showing what a great player he is, winning his battles and mostly playing the ball out well from the back. Mansell worked his socks off as he does and Nico had a fine game, playing such good balls forward for Sills and Green.
One more thing that is working well, Sills was winning his headers and flicking the ball on forward, so often it was the case that the flick ons were just a waste, not today as every time he flicked it on, you felt Green would come from some where and get on the end of the ball and this he did all afternoon.
During the second half a Sills header was cleared of the line, Wroe did one of his half way line shots that had the keeper struggling to get back and save it. The Hodges free kick was so good and its a shame it did not go in, just as you thought Wroe was going to hit it, Hodges hit such a clean shot, that hit the post and went back across the goal. Even then you felt we were going to knock it in, but it was cleared.
Sad that some fools behind me once again were slagging off Carlisle, yes he gave the ball away a few times in the first half, but he gave everything he had,as did every single player out on the pitch today. Great game, great result and lets hope we get the reward this performance deserves, with a big man in the draw tomorrow.
