The important thing was to win and that is what we done in the end, the defense seemed to have done a good job and Green was having a good game.
What side did Carlisle play on when he came on? if it was the left hand side then thats two goals from two subs starts out there that he has scored and it is where he was playing when he hurt us when he was with Exeter.
Rob the view coming from those on the radio was we had lost our punch without Green on the pitch and up until the time he went off, he was looking like our most likely scorer.
Its three points and ones that may well prove to be important ones and it keeps us on coarse for a a place in the play -offs.

I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned before Merse did earlier in this match thread that we seem to be travelling-up on the day. That must take an additional strain on the injuries that players are bound to pick-up.
It's our 10th away league win of the season - that has been hugely impressive - especially as we have played all but two of the top ten away already.
As for Carlisle - he certainly has a touch of class. We haven't yet seen it on a consistent basis, but they always said that at Exeter - but he was always a terror against us. Thats 4 points that he has nicked for us in a few weeks - he seems to be able to step-up when it matters. He's going to be a vital player for the run-in.

Strange statistics in terms of current form:
Home: Played 6, Won 1, Drawn 3, Lost 2
Away: Played 6, Won 5, Drawn 0, Lost 1
Consensus of opinion has it that teams come to Plainmoor looking to shut us down and go home with a point.
That may be true, but all of our immediate rivals seem to be able to cope better at home and the comparative records defy logic really.

...Terrific win. Having players on the bench with that touch of class and ability to nick a late goal is starting to pay dividends.
Carlisle was crucial to Exeter's late surge to promotion, lets hope this match winning strike gives him the confidence to play to the level we know he can on a more consistent basis. 10 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats in our last 14 away games is auto prom form......clean sheets at home are needed for the run in, if we cant catch Burton, then i would like us to finish a close second.

stewart I think that is the problem, teams come to our ground just for a point, but then we need to play in such a way to draw them out more and use the pace we have to get in behind them.
At least we are getting good points on our travels and lets hope we can start making more of our home games into wins.

ohtobeatplainmoor as merse said, it really is just a sign of the times, with home gates being so much lower than expected, sponsor monies being withdrawn, something has to give and ways to make savings have to be found. Not sure how much over night stays cost, but its not just the hotel etc, its also having to pay for the coach for another day.
I really don't see it as being too big a problem really, it was the norm under Batson except for a few games when he did put his hand in his pocket. The only time it will have any real effect is when we have games very close together. The boys will surely have a day off tomorrow and should be recovered properly to train on Thursday.

Ealingull, I think that a small squad playing on the Histon pitch will be bound to pick-up injuries. When they lost their first choice centre-halves ahead of playing against us we destroyed them. I felt that over the remainder of the season we would finish above them (although I didn't think that during much of the Weymouth or FGR matches!).
Stewart, while teams do seem to go-down very easily under tackles, take their time taking set-pieces (and nearly ALWAYS seem to substitute the player that is furthest away from the dug-out) many have surprised me with giving it a "good go" rather than "parking the bus" as many teams tried to do last time.
Dave - I fully accept that this is the situation we have to work with at the moment - as I expect most other teams have to as well. Hopefully the fans turn-out in force on Saturday - surely another 250 home fans on the gate is the least the team deserve.
There are 11 games left - I think we would need 6 wins and a couple of draws to take a play-off spot, but the most important thing is we hit the play-offs with some decent form and the squad ready to push-on - compared to last season when we looked exhausted after a marathon season.

At least we are getting good points on our travels and lets hope we can start making more of our home games into wins. To an extent though, i think we have been a little unlucky at home. We were all over Forest Green and, somehow conceded 3 first half goals and then there was the Rushden game - A bad offside decision with Benyon clean through and a quite unbelievable ignorence of the continued fouling of Sills and later Robertson from set pieces. A referee who wasn't afraid to make decisons would have given 4 or 5 penalties in that game, I really could'nt believe what I was seeing. By the same measure, we have had that bit of luck away from home lately. Both of our last two games have been won in the dying minutes when it has sounded as though they could have gone either way. All i'm saying is that, perhaps, our poor home form and great away form is being exaggerated just a little. I think the next three games are crucial though. Three struggling sides and if we can take maximum points from them then we can be sure of the play off's; and, who knows, maybe we'll get Burton...

With the size of the squad this season and one that has much more depth than last season, you would think we would not have an exhausted side by the time we get to the play-offs. Just think we have Toddy to come back and players who were not in the side tonight, all who will be able to play a big part in the games we have left.

tufcwewillbeback I will agree that if we had been given the correct decisions by the officials in some of our recent home games, then our home form would look so much better, but on paper and that is how people will look see it, it is not as good as It could have been.

quite a coincidence, then, because they quoted that exact line in yesterday's Fiver! What is the 'fiver'?? Sorry for the delayed response to this... the Fiver is the Guardian's football email thing which they relase every night around 5pm. it's completely tongue in cheek and often (okay, usually. okay...sometimes) hilarious. here's yesterday's edition, which features the quote under the 'Still want more?' section: football.guardian.co.uk/Fiver/0,,2296890,00.html it's well worth signing up to. as for tonight...i'm an eternal cynic and i wonder what the responses on here would've been were it not for a late individual winner from a player who has under performed this season...who tonight was finally played in a position many have been called for him to fill for months. great win, though...
