At last, the first home afternoon game and the first opportunity this season to take my young children to a game together with some relatives visiting from the London area. God knows what the attendance will be after the last few performances but we will be giving it our all. Interestingly, prior to the Crawley game, I advocated changes to the LM, CM, CD and CF positions - all of which were implemented but with the additional change at RB which as an outsider left me scratching my head - at least Mansell has had 6 months to grow into his new position. I didn't see the game but my gut feeling is that both the midfield and central defence pairings are not the way to take the team forward. From the reports it seems that one of the few positives is that both Sills and Adams have picked up their games after losing their places. Gone are the days last year when one could confidently pick the team but would hazard a very debatable guess as follows: Poke Mansell, Ellis, Hodges, Nicholson Carlisle, Adams, Wroe, Carayol Sills, Dsane. I have gone for Ellis as he is a defender, (stating the obvious I know, but...) he has a bit of pace to complement Hodges and I think he has the potential to be a really good defender. I think Adams now has earnt the right to start but he didn't combine well with Hargreaves last year and again gut feeling, think him and Wroe form a better partnership. Wroe has been o.k. to good in matches I have seen but realise that he has had bad reports in matches that I haven't seen.....

How about - (CB's assuming Todd remains sidelined) Poke Mansell Woods Ellis Hodges Carlisle Hargreaves Adams Stevens Sills Dsane Although I have a bad feeling that, due to poor displays from Stevens and, apperently, Carayol yesterday, Buckle could play a 4-3-3 so heres my other guess. GK Poke RB Woods LB Nicho CB Ellis CB Hodges CM Mansell CM Hargreaves CM Wroe FWD Sills, Green and Dsane. Someone should start a Guess the team thread - I bet NO ONE would get it right ;D

Hi tufcwewillbeback,
Don't have too many issues with your 4-4-2 team - just not sure about the Adams - Hargreaves combo but would love to be proved wrong!! Also haven't since Hargreaves in midfield since the play offs - did he play well there on Saturday? Would like to see Hodges retained in defence for his distribution qualities.
Interestingly enough, with Hargreaves maybe injured, Mansell at RB and Thompson suspended, despite the perceived oversupply of midfielders, the options in midfield seem to be limited - Adams, Wroe and Brough with the latter maybe earmarked for defensive duties or could be on the bench as cover for two different positions.
Sorry but really don't like your 4-3-3 formation but we shall see this afternoon....

I would like to see a change from the 442 and think a change of formation would be a good way to authorise a change in the style of fottball we play
What do people think of something like this
.............................................Poke ..........................................
.....Mansell...............Ellis/Todd.................Woods............Hodges....
.............................Hargreaves...............Adams............................
..............................................Carlsile...........................................
..........Dsane.................................................................Carayol...
................................................Sills..............................................
Subs, Robertson, Wroe, Stevens, Green, Nicho
I Think it is important at this time to abondon any experiments (Brough/Hargreaves) and play our strongest possible back 4
Hargreaves and Adams in the middle will give us much more precence, Carlisle has a football brain and I have put him in the middle with a kind of 'free role' who will be able to play the ball into the feet of Sills, Dsane and Carayol.
When the ball is played in the air, Sills has two optios in Dsane and Caryol either side of him, and even in Carlisle
Dsane and Carayol give us more pace in the team, I am unsure how effective Dsane will be on the wing but I would give him the freedom to come inside and be the second striker when Carayol has the ball

Todd is injured and I still wouldn't pick Woods over Hodges, therefore Nicholson is needed at left back. Carlisle seems the type of good pro' who'll do a good job anywhere in the team within reason and this role could be made for him. I still prefer a "first strike" type of central defender and whilst Brough is not that Ellis certainly is, whilst Hodges is good at the "dropping off" role.

Merse, you and I have differing opinions over Woods, and I can appreciate your arguments. I would not be at all disappointed if Buckle picked your team as I still fell there is a freshness about it. My only concern would be the lack of experience between Hodges and Ellis at Center back, and thus why Woods gets the nod for me.
Don't get me wrong I was impressed with Hodges when he moved to Center back against Bristol Rovers but I think his distribution is needed at Left back. I understand you saw him play there on Saturday so maybe you are in a better position to make that call
The only unfortunate thing is, if Bucks were to pick this side, and we lost, fingers will be pointing to the number of players playing out of position.
Well, off to the game now. Come on you Yellows!!!

God, the frustrations of not being at a match and trying to follow it on BBC Radio Devon. We've got a summariser (Jeremy Butler, whom I know) summarising and a "commentator" who is also summarising. Whole tracts of the game go un commented on as they prattle on about the Altrincham game last season, break off for some friendly carnival game Devon are playing at Budleigh; and I fully expect an in depth prognostication of the differing lengths of Chris Robertson's and Danny Stevens' dicks before the end. ...............and these clowns have then got the nerve to criticise Paul Buckle for doing a TV interview during a break in play for Setanta! Yeah right, stick to Womens' Institutes and Tony Fecking Beard and his silly fake Debn' accent because it's all you're good for you bunch of yokels

crowd of 2001 apparently, oh dear. No suprise...people are not going to pay good money when all hope is fast disappearing and the club chooses to ignore its supporters and wont address their fears.
