Does anyone know what happened to Dave Caldwell after he left Torquay? Plus, what is he up to now? I remember him as a player who literally "lit" up a game in one way or another. It was never quiet with him around! Didn't he get banned for something like eight games?

Did play for one of the Inverness clubs pre-merger, plus a couple of other clubs north of the border

Not sure where he is now, but I do have a great memory of him. We were playing Leyton Orient away I think it was on a boxing day, or new years day.
Had a horrible dinner in some grotty old cafe and my mate came in and said he had been given some free tickets to watch the game. So there were three of us and in we went.
Dave C ran a long way with the ball and scored, we jumped up going mad. We soon realized that no one else around us were celebrating. So when he went and scored again, we just did nothing. Only right in the middle of their hard core supporters, still nothing happened, but I do remember the coach had a problem getting out of the car park. Happy days.

Sober or not, they were stunning goals and the type one never tires of saying "I was there" and I too was in amongst some work mates of mine in the O's lot, sitting on the old West Bank on those ruddy awful "tractor seats" they used to have! DCs an executive for an Aberdeen company now and doing very well. He does visit Torquay from time to time and there was a poster on .net touting himself for the Plainmoor manager's job a couple of years back and claiming to be him....................I wonder if it was!

The two I vividly remember are the overhead kick at home to Hereford (his debut, he also battered their two centre halves off the ball ;D) and that truly iconic diving header away at Bristol City in the cup. A quality player. I think Cyril Knowles only paid Chesterfield £7,000 for him. I believe he's still classed as a legend at Mansfield.

Oh my god,
That goal at Bristol City, I still remember it now, what a header. I was there and the whole big terrace behind the away end went completly mental. We went on to play Sheff Wed in the next round. Another great day out.

The Sheffield Wednesday games were the 2-3 home defeat in 1983 and the 1-5 away defeat in 1990 or so!

No I think Coventry was 1988 and Seff Wed was 1989, But I could be wrong. Oops.

I think they won with two pens by Regies after we had thumped them the whole game.Again Caldwells had a great game against their big defender with the mad curley hair and beard(think it was Kilcline)

yorkie I'm sure you're right. I remember listening to it on the radio and Caldwell was all over their defence like a rash!
