Dave,
Whilst I appreciate where you are coming from and always know that whatever you say is from the heart and based on solid principles, I think you are getting the wrong end of the stick about what Budleigh is saying here.
Any forum does only represent a small fraction of a club's support. Traditionally, most forums are dominated by opinionated, loud-mouthed people who type before they think and like the sound of their own voices. Reading Mervo's old forum would give you a view that all supporters thought in a certain way, as aggressive and abusive posters chased away people with more balanced viewpoints. That then jaundiced people against any forum user as "one of that lot". I know for a fact that was the reason it was so tough to convince the silent majority about Roberts, because anything discussed on a forum was seen as worthless - "you lot are always moaning about something".
Incredibly, this forum is the polar opposite of the typical football forum. It is marked out by the amount of thought people put into what they post. We disagree, we put different slants on things but any outsider would have to be impressed at just how damned reasonable posters, with very few exceptions, are.
The directors of OUR club DO take fans' views on board. They are fans. The Trust meets the Board regularly and will pass on any concerns. A few games ago, the club were handing out questionnaires asking for fans' views. The directors ARE approachable. I have no doubt that Alex Rowe, Simon Baker, etc. will be more than happy to discuss any problems with anyone. Of course, I mean reasonable and constructive comments not rants.
The point on message boards is a general one. People running football clubs will tie themselves up in knots if they start fully engaging on forums. There are numerous examples of club officials (I am not necessarily thinking OUR club here) using forums with the best of intentions only for it all to end in tears.
It has been hinted that several directors DO read this forum. I don't know if that is true or not but it would surprise me if some didn't. They are reasonable, intelligent people who love OUR club - the perfect fit for this forum. If they do read this forum, you can bet that they certainly DO take on board views of supporters expressed here.
I doubt if they will find any points on man-management or contract law that they hadn't already thought of. What we have to remember is that they DO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. It may be frustrating for us not understanding why things happen, but I think we should all accept that the possibility that they are acting stupidly is far smaller than the possibility that they are acting as they are because they know a lot more about what is going on than we do.
I'm off to the match now, Dave - hope to see you. If not, I hope you will see it as a POSITIVE decison from you to go and support your son, rather than a NEGATIVE decision to turn your back on TUFC over a little misunderstanding!
COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
