It was only a chance remark from someone I picked up on as a further reason that it may be a good idea to try the gold kit... It wasn't all to do with the reasoning as suggested, just an added bonus and one that i'm sure anyone involved with wouldn't've wanted to make something of... If that makes sense?

Yes it did make sense Leigh, but due to the lose of this man, who was loved and respected by the fans, I do feel that it would have been good if the club had said the gold kit was done in his honour, as it was the same colour of the kit used while he was in charge of the club.
I can understand some could feel it may look like a statement like that might be taken that the club where trying to use it as a way to boost shirt sales, but I would think the number would be very low and most fans would have seen it for all the right reasons.
That is if it was that colour for those reasons and not done by accident and someone just noticing the colour was the same or very close to what it was when he was in charge.

I believe it really was just more low key than that, quite possibly the idea was to go for a traditional feel (in that most people with any feeling of tradition seem to go back as far as the sixties therefore removing the black & white stripes, the red & white quarters, the pale blue with trim etc!) with the extra element as mentioned enough to push that colour to the fore. Remembering that at the time he was still very much alive and playing a part in the move forward. I hope I haven't made out it was the only reason for the 'gold' kit, I have no knowledge of any of the discussions as to kit colour only that this aspect was mentioned to me at the time as a nice further touch.

I was forgetting when it was he sadly passed away and had it in my head it was a little longer ago than when it was, time these days goes so fast and some events feel like yesterday and others years ago, when they may not have been that long ago.
I think the best view to take is that for what ever reasons, be it by design or just some luck, that the kit turned out the same colour, that we should just look at it and use it to remember the great man he was and that really is all that is important in the end.

Time does fly... or as it's known in my line of work... Tempus Fugit.. As I felt on my birthday the other week! Where did those years go? It's especially true when you look back over old programmes of games seen, I was shocked when I realised how long ago it was that Matt Elliott played for us... (ps... actually, the kit it is a slightly more orange rather than gold isn't it!)

I know... I was just looking at a shirt hanging on my wall as I wrote that earlier trying to see if we could qualify it as either colour and in the light of that moment it took on an orange glow, but now the sun's gone in, it does now seem to be taking on a more golden hue... honest!
