Any chance the new shirt will be yellow? But why should it be? When the club made the major change from black and white it was to GOLD and Blue and that was how it stayed until under the Bateson regime we saw the gold become yellow and the royal blue become navy in a blatant disregard for the club's heritage. It's only Johnnycomelatetys who yearn for "yellow" which is used by so many clubs as their change strip anyway. So in the interests of the club's history and heritage, I say stick to GOLD and Royal Blue! 'Johnnycomelatelys'? Not sure i'm one of those. But anyway, i'm aware of all that. Can i request instead then that if they're going to attempt to keep 'Gold' as our colour, they actually make it gold, and not some putrid orange...?

It looks exactly like the GOLD we changed to in the fifties as opposed to the OLD Gold of Wolves and the Amber of Mansfield and Newport to say nothing of the Tangerine of Blackpool.

Well it seems the colour of the home shirts is causing some debate, well here are the most common shades of yellow, lets see what one you would pick. A reminder of the colours that have been used

Things change with time..we now play in yellow.

There just may be a fairly good reason we changed to gold for this strip. Who was chairman during our most successful period, the sixties, and what was the shirt colour then?

Things change with time..we now play in yellow. But we don't do we? We now play in Gold once more. The change from black and white to gold and blue was a conscious and (dare I say it?) positive action whilst the slide into yellow and navy was more an act of carelessness. How many liked the incorporation of more white in the kits in the seventies and in particular my favourite - the all white triple striped royal and gold kit that Malcolm Musgrove introduced? The so called "retro kit" along those lines is a sad attempt at reproducing that excellent Umbro style of the seventies and I regret the day I gave away my original "no 3" of that issue given to me by Phil Sandercock. A bemused Boavista fan was only too pleased to swap shirts with me when I was in Porto one holiday..................I only hope that he still treasures it as for the life of me I couldn't put my hands on the black and white chequered number I received in exchange!

I had heard that suggestion very recently, and i completely appreciate the sentiment of the idea. But if that was the thinking, should it not have been made common knowledge? This shirt has been on sale for nearly 2 seasons. If you are hoping people will buy a shirt based on the thought behind it, rather than the actual appearance, that thought really needs to be transmitted.

Fonda, it was me that told you!! I don't believe at the time it was done for common public knowledge, just a private appreciation... Nobody was hoping the shirt would be bought on that sentiment, it was just an 'extra'...

Surely an important aspect of shirt design is it's appeal to the buying public? And if people aren't fond of the design, maybe the sentiment would have been enough to make some buy it anyway?

I must confess when I first saw the current kit, I felt it looked to much like orange and I would not have said it was close to any gold shades I have seen. One think no one has said in any post is what we sing at games, do we sing come on you gold's, well we all know we sing come on you yellow's.
Based on that alone there has to be very good argument for the kit being yellow and not gold and I do feel that a decent yellow would look good and fans would be happy with it. We know many moaned when the orange shirt came out and while I do not know any figures, you have to ask has it sold as well as the shirt it replaced.
If as Leigh said it was that colour as a mark of respect for someone who was a big part of the club, then should that have been made known? I can understand any argument that the club would not want to try and use the fact just to sell extras shirts, but fans may well have wanted to buy one as it was linked to the great man and would have represented the time he was in charge.
Change is fine and like Jimd said we did it from black and white to yellow and blue and no one is asking for any major colour changes, just a better shade of colour and one that may just be a bit more yellow.

Based on that alone there has to be very good argument for the kit being yellow and not gold So by your way of thinking, because "the crowd" sing the "The Referee's A C**t" he should act like one? I think one thing OUR club has historically lacked it's a sense of unique identity and to that end it couldn't do better than imposing a consistency of kit colour and design from it's "rebirth" last season to infinity. For good or for bad, I was wholly in favour of retaining the yellow and white stripes for it's very uniqueness and beginning from there, but that is all past now and I sincerely believe importance should be paid to the identity of OUR club.

With all this talk of kits, I think Nicky Wroe looks simply sensational in his England kit on .com at the moment.
Makes him look all elegant and that LOL
Congrats to him on captaining the side during the second half as well in an easy 4-0 win.
