I've seen Christie play (including a fair few games against us) over the years. We were linked with him back around this time in 2008. He looked like he was carrying a bit of weight and was in a pretty toothless Rochdale team, but that was in 2006/07. For a sriker that has regularly notched goals against us, I'm pretty sure that I cannot remember him ever scoring against us (some strikers seem to make a habit of it against us!), although he certainly would crop-up fairly consistently on the vidiprinter for the clubs that he has turned-out for!
12 goals in the last 14 matches last season for Kiddy suggests that he has still got something about him (although hopefully his goalscoring touch hasnt left him in the same way that Green's has since the end of last season). I think given that January is a much harder time to get new personnel in and Christie offers something different to the rest of the strikers, plus that vital bit of experience.
I don't think that anyone REALLY believed that we would get Beavon - his recent goals tally has probably put paid to that. I wouldn't have been surrised to see a departure or two, but I'm sure that over the next few months a couple will leave on loan.

Oh really? Well to be honest a certain SG on 'the other side' posted this on January 1st... He seemed so certain...
Quote: We will also be signing Stuart Beavon from Weymouth. I'll leave you to discuss the merits of this signing.
Unlike him to get it wrong... I'll leave you to discuss the merits of this statement.

For one night only I will break my own personal rule and say just one thing, SG I know took sceen shots of this forum when it only showed a few members on line, these were sent to some people to try and make out this forum was never busy and would not last, so yes I do think he gets somethings wrong.

Get what wrong? The impending departure of Colin Lee (sic), boardroom implosion and (even worse if it did happen!) the return of John Milton and Dirty Den to replace Buckle?! I'll say no more!

I do trust that everyone realises I was being sarcastic with my 'Unlike him to get it wrong' comment above!

I don't think it would be lost on many people who have made the exodus to this fine site, Budleighgull!

Well at least Buckle has done something. I don't know much about Christie, but as someone else said he has cropped up on the videprinter enough times to be encouraged. My biggest concern is how Buckle will manage him. He's turned Green into a goal shy forward with his coaching and playing tactics. Let's hope he plays him in the best way to get goals. Also, it calls into question his decision to let Phillips go. In hindsight a mistake. Which most of us agreed on at the start of the season. Now, is this a sign he is learning or proof that he got it wrong? just found these elephant smilies, cool eh? When i go to work i drive past 3 huge fellas grazing before they start their tourist treks.

There were other reasons that Phillips had to go... As there were for why he had to leave Exeter... and it was nothing to do with Bucks. Trust me that it really was the best for the club in the long run...

Bud, you have me at a disadvantage. Being a tad remote from plainmoor i don't get to hear the inside gossip. From what i understood he didn't want to leave. A bit of handbags over the wembley final maybe.

Dave S, I would have thought that Bucks saw that as a risk to team harmony - I certainly wasn't very impressed with his behavious (if indeed it was true that he stormed-out). In my view letting Phillips go hasn't damaged us badly (Zebroski has been a loss though) and his minimal return in goals and his stop-start season due to fitness has demonstrated that perhaps he is too much of a risk.
With regards to the statement "He's turned Green into a goal shy forward with his coaching and playing tactics.", I don't agree with that. When Green turned-up he clearly didn't seem fit (general fitness-wise he was well behind the others)- on the occaisions that he played (and I saw him in the pre-season as well) he ended-up with an ice-pack on his knee.
I have faith that Green will start scoring - which is a real change of opinion from me as on the glimpses that I had seen of him up until the end of December he really disappointed me. His fitness and strength has been excellent and he looks like he is more confident - fitness adn strength are not the be-all and end-all fo a striker (Leon Braithwaite and Darren Campbell were sprinters and they were nowhere near god enough in front of goal) but Green has something about him that suggests that he can produce the goods, it is just taking a bit of time and needs a little bit of luck. Akinfenwa was in a similar position at the start of January when he was with us - in and out of the team and had only scored 3 or 4 league goals but was starting to fit-in to the team and get a level of match fitness that he was well-off when he squeezed through the doors at Plainmoor. All he was lacking were the goals - but then they suddenly started flowing....... I'm never an optimistic TUFC fan, but I have a real belief that Green will do the business for us.
I guess the lack of goals has lead Bucks to attempt something different up-front. I'm convinced that he will return to the starting line-up and will score goals.

I too have been hoping Green would start firing. He was bought in with a reputation and then parked on the bench seemingly injury prone. Judging by the reports there's little doubt he has some of the tools (pace and awareness) but has lacked sharpness in front of goal. I would love to see him smack a few in. However as a replacement for Phillips and/or Zeb he's fallen short. I don't think he's had a fair run in the team or been played to his strengths.
Phillips should not have been let go under those circumstances. Ok, if there was some other reason fair enough. But surely Buckle would have known this before he signed for us. Wasn't he with Buckle at Weymouth and Excreta? Poor judgement and management again from Buckle? Quite happy to be told i'm wrong on this, but would like to know why. Going over old ground probably, but relevant given the current Buckle induced goal drought.
