link - so matchday again, behind closed doors, but now it’s the Bristol City first team and not their under 21s so a massive step up in quality and should be good preparation for the forthcoming season.

7 changes at half time and looks like it shows with Bristol City scoring twice to go 4-2 up. Trialist B just failed to get on the end of a ball to score just before the 4th conceded goal though.

One of my beefs with Mr Johnson is that he is so full of excuses excuses excuses.
Focus on the things you CAN influence, not the things you can’t.
Nothing to be gained by moaning at the ref for not disallowing their second goal.
Focus instead on stopping McGavin pissing about with the ball in his own penalty area.
If he had not pissed about, they would not have the chance to win the ball there fairly or unfairly.
Less excuses please.

Come on Jon, cheer up its early days and just the second game of pre season against a side that will be hoping to challenge at the top of the Championship. There are one or two encouraging signs and you concentrate only on one off the cuff remark which was justified IMHO. Johnson is competitive even in friendlies and if he wasn't someone else would be moaning about that and in all honesty he is one manager that actually hasn't got a reputation for making dumb arse excuses. Early days to make any judgements but an encouraging first 45 by all accounts. Final result is irrelevant if the players get match time and gain fitness without sustaining damaging injuries. Up a gear on Tuesday but would imagine it will be a fairly gentle affair to gain fitness for both sets of players - and another defeat. Anyway who was Trailist "A" the No 5 and which, if any of the others showed any promise?

Got to sympathise with Jon on this, the only thing those highlights show is that McGavin is still an accident waiting to happen.

I presumed Jon was in pre-season mode and just sharpening his criticism and practicing his grumbles. As the old football saying goes: you can only moan at what is in front of you...

Let’s see what the yellow, white and blue army are like tomorrow. Hopefully a striker or two, classy midfield player and a beefy CB 🤔 I can’t see GJ not having a striker on the bench this season or having a bench of useless CB’s, can you?

Johnson is competitive even in friendlies and if he wasn't someone else would be moaning about that and in all honesty he is one manager that actually hasn't got a reputation for making dumb arse excuses. I watched the highlights with Thursday evening very much in mind. Gary DOES always reach for an excuse and never takes responsibility. The problem with that is it means we do not properly address self-inflicted problems. I don’t draw great conclusions from friendlies but that second goal is an utter farce. McGavin thinks he is Franz Beckenbauer when he is more like Frank Spencer. When he gives the ball away, the rest of the defence is stood daydreaming to allow a tap in. The manager should be furious at our players not the ref. Focus on the root cause that is within our control. As it is, we seem to say it is o.k. boys, it is all the stupid ref’s fault. No need to change anything we do. We did not get relegated last season because of refs. We need the mentality that we make our own luck.

There still looks to be over 500 seats avaliable for tommorows home Southampton friendly so i think the club have judged it just about right . However if you dont like watching your football from a plastic seat like me then there is Brixham Uniteds biggest game for years at Wall Park. Back in the Western League Premier and a very tasty looking opener against Falmouth Town. And yes you can pay on the gate...

A low crowd would not prove that Popsiders did not want to attend. It proves that the club would not let them. I think we would have retained most of the home support after the excellent performances against Plymouth and Exeter. We will never know how many might have attended if the club changed its policy of discouraging support.

Back in the Western League Premier and a very tasty looking opener against Falmouth Town. And yes you can pay on the gate... Back? United were never in the Western Premier - they were in the first (strange name for the second) division. Brixham is actually a merger of Villa and United, not just United. Falmouth will bring an entertaining following. The F-troop have turned up in numbers for games at Buckland.
