Pre season is important for the manager and players but should be irrelevant to supporters. Put your money on Dartford to win the league and Torquay to finish 4th, and possibly sneak a back door promotion in the play off lottery. ⚽️ I'm totally past being surprised by anything that happens at our club good or bad these days Stefano. Always best to expect the worst - anything else is a bonus.

Pre season is important for the manager and players but should be irrelevant to supporters. National League South football should be irrelevant to supporters too, but supporters are not logical. Good job too, or the club would have gone bust 100 years ago. I know some don’t bother with pre-season friendlies but I really enjoy them. A chance for an early glimpse of new signings and trialists and chance to enjoy football without caring too much about the result. Not the same as competitive football but enjoyable all the same. I enjoy live football far more than televised football so am impatient for some action. I will go to Buckland and will enjoy it. Might even bump into one or two ex-contributors from here who I don’t get the chance to bump into at Plainmoor. I don’t expect the club to tailor its pre-season to my watching preferences, but I don’t think our schedule ticks the most important box of preparing the players for battles ahead.

There's a lot to agree with in this post. I was disgusted at the joy for winning the NL South a few years back yet I joined in enthusiastically, confused as I was about the overall quality of football I was watching but at the same time feeling the need to celebrate success at any level. You can only beat what is in front of you and if we drop down enough divisions we should end up being unbeatable. I get a bit football-weary by the time April rolls around, even more so with any lack of success or, as with last season, facing clear failure. I enjoy watching cricket in the summer but around about now I get excited by the fixture list being released and look forward to pre-season friendlies on prefect pitches in the sunshine. It's as if my football battery is fully recharged and ready for the gradual wearing down over the cold, wet winter months. As for tellybox football, I seem to have got more demanding in my old age. I appear to be unable to grasp the shape of a game on the TV with the cameras simply following the ball, so prefer to watch any live football I can find. I haven't watched a minute of Premier League football for two seasons now, nor did I watch any of the Winter World Cup, nor the Champions League. I spent more time at non-league Step Five matches last season than I did watching football on television. We needed Sky Sports so that Mrs Rags can watch all the Luton Town matches she went to anyway, and we will need BT Sport as well for all the Premier League matches she will go to. I'm not sure exactly how that works: subscribing to a sports channel that broadcasts games you are attending, but who am I to argue?!

You can put the money saved in the kitty for all our away trips this season. Should save me even more money 💰

McGavin scores a third. My gut is starting to tell me that this may not be the toughest opposition……
It was the u21 right?

Jarvis scores a pen after Ash was fouled in the box. 0-4, 27 minutes.

Only Donnellan and Trialist A remain of the first half team. Crowe gets a mention in dispatches for defending.

Full time with the game ending 5-0. Nice to see Dan Martin getting meaningful time back on the pitch.
