So the new season is here with a cracking first game at home to former premiership side Oldham athletic who have seemingly been in decline for many years, not having finished in the top half of their division since 2009 (ouch!)and finally dropping out of the EFL for the first time this year. They are managed by John Sheridan, well known to us all and just had a change of ownership with the Rothwell family taking over last week. Consequently there have not been too many changes in their squad with Liam Hogan, central defender and former captain of championship winning side Stockport coming as well as former Oldham player Dan Gardner, who has spent the last two years at league one level. To some extent will be an unknown quantity but they do have quality in the side. Our pre season has gone Ok, outplayed against Plymouth but more than held our own against Newport and Exeter. Lots of niggling injuries but most of the starting XI will have had sufficient match time under their belts. Think the defence is well set. Jarvis and Andrews are probably the two most likely starters up front but Goodwin may get the nod in front of Jarvis who has missed the last few games. McGavin will start, probably with Lapslie in the centre leaving Hanson and Evans for the final place, depends on fitness but the latter may get the nod just behind the front two. In typical TUFC tradition, the season now starts with an Oldham team buoyed by the news of a new owner. I can still remember the euphoria when Sharkey took the reins at TUFC…a feeling which has remained, and will continue to do so as Sharkey guides us through these choppy waters. 🫶
What’s going to happen to the next team we play, are they going to stumble on a meadow full of four leaf clover’s, or could they receive a divine visit from the Arch Angle Galadriel…with prophecies of them “kicking our arses!”
We shall see.

Yes, it’s the start of a new season and on paper we have a fairly decent squad…but calm down just a bit! 🫀

Great day for a football match and what better opening fixture could you ask for than Oldham?
Should be a sizeable crowd despite the club’s best efforts to discourage attendance.
Will Johnson spring a late loan surprise? Three out on loan, Hall and Martin out, Donnellan probably out leaves 16 fit - we hope.
Expect we’ll play McGavin just ahead of Lapslie and Hanson which would mean perm two (possibly the fittest two!) from Andrews, Jarvis, Goodwin and Evans with the other two on the bench with Lovett, Tomlinson and Koszela.
Would be good to be able to refresh the front two from the bench without reducing quality.
Would be nice to get off to a flying start.
Odds in the Torbay Weekly have eight ahead of us, with four of us at 25-1, suggesting 9th to 12th. About right, but with a following wind I’m hoping for 7th.

More people watched Torquay against a Western League side on a Friday in the middle of nowhere than watched Torquay against a Football League side on a Saturday at Plainmoor eight days later. Cannot understand the rationale for self-harming. Very strange goings on! |

Is this £2 surcharge a new thing and does it also apply to game day online ticket purchases?
Surcharge or SAVING? Really depends which way you look at it. I guess the club could remove the advance purchase £2 "saving" maybe that would satisfy the critics
Thought surcharge only applied to ticket office sales on the day of he game though never done it myself as internet purchase is so simple.
No game predictions from me - completely open minded and could go any way you can think of wirth both teams up for it with fresh unproven squads.

Lapslie and Jarvis not fit so Evans, Andrews and Goodwin all start.McGavin will play a bit deeper to accommodate Evans in the hole.
Unfit Asa Hall making up the numbers on the bench along with Ashley Nathaniel-George - a winger from Southend apparently.
