did anyone else see Di Matteo or whtever he is called, give a little look off recognition that he had drawn out the non league club when we came out. Wasnt Dave Beasant (or however it is spelt) doing the "home" teams?

...I'm sure Seasider on FGG won't mind me posting this on here...
"Good luck and our best wishes to Torquay United. I had this down as a potential banana skin but obviously on paper you think there should be enough talent there to at least earn you a replay but by all accounts the Gulls thoroughly deserved their win so you won't get any argument from me and I hope they land an even bigger fish in the next round"

Quick question. Which player in the Coventry City line that day up appeared a number of times in a Torquay shirt? Greg Downs (a "striker"when he came to us on loan from Norwich) of course! Barton's brother Greg has cropped up a couple of times here recently. He only ever played one league game for us, scoring against Rochdale. He did play a couple of first team friendlies at Plainmoor, bagging two goals in Dave Stocks' Testimonial - a game memorable for a scorcher from Lindsay "no goals in 400 and odd league games" Parsons. Maybe one reason we all think Downs was at Plainmoor for longer was that he was a player or player-manager at Hereford in that period when we were drawn against them in the FA Cup, League Cup, Leyland DAF Sherpa Van Autowindscreens Trophy Shield and in the Devon and Herefordshire Challenge Bowl for seventeen consecutive seasons. I found the link below via Wiki - some interesting stuff about his conversion to left back and his decision not to stay at TUFC : www.blues.premiumtv.co.uk/page/WhereAreTheyNowDetail/0,,10412~1028351,00.html

Greg Downes. I still remember him in the 1987 cup final getting one back against the great Chris Waddle. He tried to bamboozle him with Waddle-esque step overs. Quality stuff.

No real surprise that our game will not be shown live on the TV, while I can understand that the Liverpool and Manchester United games would be considered box office games, they are games you will see on the TV as league games and is not the magic of the FA cup, the fact that small teams get to play the big boys.
I'm sure if we had got any prem team in the draw, it would have made it on to the TV, Coventry is just not seen as a big team, yet after we knocked out Blackpool, you would have thought that as we are only in the BSP and playing another championship side, we would be seem as giant killers. The romance of the cup is the little teams beating the bigger teams and in my view offer better viewing than fixtures that happen anyway between teams playing in the same league.
The money really would have come in handy thats for sure, but we still have the chance for a good payday, even more so if we win and you would expect that we would then get a live TV game in the next round.

I'm sure if we had got any prem team in the draw, it would have made it on to the TV, . Didn't work out that way for Kettering - unfortunately for us, and Kettering, there were too many "good" ties drawn out - Liverpool v Everton, Man Utd v Spurs, Derby v Forest etc etc that there was no way the TV guys gave us or Kettering a second thought - it was just ££££££££ signs in their eyes. It really frustrates me, although I know their reasons. I just think that the FA could do more to try and push teams like us, and Kettering, teams punching way above their weight, forward a little bit more, or maybe insist that teams like us are shown first......but then they wouldn't get a decent deal from the TV companies either if that was the case. I thought that maybe Setanta would have been slightly more sympathetic towards the BSP teams given the deal they have with the league, but alas no. I think both TV companies lay their cards on the table when showing the highlights - most of the "giant killings" were shown in a sequence not lasting any longer than three or four minutes in total. I am not saying the BBC are the be all and end all, and they certainly have their faults (especially when it comes to sorting out internet feeds! ) but they certainly seemed to focus more on the "little clubs" when they had the FA cup deal. Maybe this had more to do with the fact that they didn't have to sell advertising space. Sorry to go on, I am just disappointed that TWO BSP teams have BOTH been overlooked in favour of the big boys - teams that get shown over and over again throughout their season anyway - the likes of Liverpool v Everton being shown on Sky Sports in the league meeting only a few days before the FA Cup clash! Come on TV execs - start showing us some of the "magic of the cup" which you are so eager to promote during your adverts, but show very little of when it comes down to it.
