Did we get any money from the Reid transfer? He was out of contract wasn't he? .. and over 24 hence no fee. Johnson is hoping to get a fee for Kalala as he is under 24 but may be wishful thinking. A sell-on clause may be worth something as Kalvin may well end up playing for pin money lower down the pyramid but could end up playing at a very high level. When he is good he is very very good .....

Many thanks plainmoorpete..was unaware of the over 24 rule. It will be interesting to see who we sign to replace Reid. 20 goal strikers not easy to find at any level.

link - Exeter release list confirms Gary Warren is unsurprisingly leaving and is a player that Johnson said will keep an eye on after his very positive impact last January. Only downside is he is 36 next month and seems to be prone to picking up injuries so there would be an element of a gamble in signing him but think the impact he made would be worth the risk.

Eight released by City, of those eight Warren and winger Lee Holmes would be two good experienced signings GJ has suggested he needs to help the less experienced in the squad. With Kalala gone Holmes looks ready made despite being in the later stages of his career. Warren proved hes a steady old head, an Ideal partner for Kyle Cameron who lets not forget is still only 23 and has his best years to come.

link - Devon Live reporting on Asa Hall and the players are doing running sessions, some together to get ready for pre-season. I’ve seen talk elsewhere of the season commencing on 19 September as opposed to the 5th or 12th which may push back pre-season by a week. Johnson is apparently in advanced talks with 2 players after having agreed terms with another three. Could we be in a position to start pre-season with a full squad?

Having now seen inside Plainmoor Johnson confirms that 5 new players have committed to the club, three of whom are experienced. A sixth is apparently very close to agreeing terms. We may well have news of the signings by next week so something to look forward to.
Initially Johnson was talking about 2 or 3 signings supplemented by another 2 or 3 loan signings and I could be wrong but these six all sound like permanent deals as they have been set up well before pre-season. This could be a sign of a lot more players being on the market and desperate to find a club but almost uncharted territory for us with a full squad from the go. It does give us the chance to hit the ground running with a fully integrated squad and a chance for Johnson to find his best starting XI by the first game.

Sounds interesting although just hope we don’t end up with too many Exeter rejects. Looking for some exciting signings!

Simon I have no idea why you think that. I can think of more than one or two who have been crucial to past success, Wayne Carlisle and Chris Todd come to mind. Bloody good job GJ doesn't think like that as he well knows that our geography dictates much of our choice in the transfer market. Couldn't care less where any player comes from personally just as long as they are committed and improve the quality in the squad. The manager seems to think the players signed will do that - good enough for me.

I said not too many. One or two may be reasonable but on the whole most listed by Exeter are advanced in years and we need youngish, eager, fit players (like Chris Todd for instance).

Johnson has talked about signing three players with experience to supplement a youngish squad. Lots of talk about Gary Warren but my lad would quite like to see Aaron Martin come here and at 30 is a good age for a central defender.
