This site prides itself on historical accuracy reg, so it needs to be pointed out that your rolling eyes towards AJ (don't worry many have done that after reading an AJ post 😉) was actually after FG's 2nd post and not after his 1st as you stated.
It may be relevant to mention as well that your eyes rolled after he had challenged you over a rather quaint view you put forward in respect of Brexit, so a good defence lawyer may well argue that he sussed you out immediately as well.

Some interesting points in 'More or less' on BBC R4, always a good listen IMO www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000rln5 Daily UK deaths - 1st wave figures have been generally understated when comparing with 2nd wave figures - there's far more testing going on now, so more are 'within 28 days of a test' criteria. Daily figures is not for deaths that day but deaths 'reported' on that day. The 1st wave peak of 1073 was on 8.4.20 but when you spread figures to day of death, that day was actually 1456 - so the peak of deaths was in the 1st wave. The 2nd wave peak of 1820 (reported) on 20.1.21 was actually 1028 on the day - this may creep up a little as the analysis continues. So the 2nd wave peak is 1028+ compared to the 1st wave peak of 1456 . . . These figures are prominent daily in the minds of media and populace - the Govt. machine should have made MUCH more effort to explain and present these crucial figures in a meaningful way. |

A seven day rolling average for both cases and deaths is a much better way of understanding where we are and smooths out those daily extortions. The good news is that lockdown is having a good effect with new cases down almost 30% on a 7 day rolling average and “like magic” a corresponding reduction in hospital admissions with vaccinations likely just starting to have an impact. Sadly deaths is a lagging indicator but even the seven day average has just started to come down by a few percentage points over the last few days.
The question is where does this leave us with lockdown? Government review on 15 Feb to be announced on 22 Feb with schools maybe back on 8th March which looks doable, maybe primary first and secondary a week or two later? The primary schools I know of are already half full! Reported locally there was an outbreak at Warberry with 15 staff members contracting this and no surprises that Wellswood has the highest infection rate in Devon although Torbay is generally still on a downward trend.
For us, if we want to watch live football, it doesn’t matter if we are in either tier 1 or 2 as the capacity is the same. I have mentioned previously I could see this happening in April and May but there is an outside possibility of this occurring in late March. You do wonder if you could have sections of the ground more tightly packed with vaccinated “old codgers” although those booster injections will only start coming in March and April.

Don't know if this is the right thread but I'm wondering if Torquay should even be going to Southport on Saturday given it is one the areas the government has identified as having the South African variant, on top of that a week later we go to Woking which I believe is also on the government watch list.
Surely I would have thought all non essential travel in and out of these areas would be banned, and to be honest a football match is not that essential.
Also does anyone know if it is true that Torquay United don't test our players for covid?

Sorry for the late reply - the laptop gave up and on the new one the VPN was preventing my access due to an upgrade to Windows 10 ! So I turned it off.
Replying to yours about the 'distortions'. The presenting of statistics is very careless even now and it cause a lot of worry with the 'ups' and false relief with the 'downs'. A 7 day moving average is an improvement but imo, the only correct way to do this is to backspread the deaths to the days of occurence and then do a 7 day average.
With billions being thrown around on this, investing say GBP 40 daily to give us the right figures would have been a good investment - I'd have done it for GBP25  |
