50/50 - going to be tight Not at nearly 8 runs an over. Need a couple of 6's very soon, which probably isn't going to happen. Told you it was tight! Super Over here we come.

Absolutely amazing! 15 all in the super over and England win due to hitting more boundaries over the course of our innings. Could not be tighter, could not be more tense. I need a drink.

Got to feel sorry for the Kiwis but they have just been part of one of the greatest sporting events ever. I have seen so many near misses and understand how FloridaGull feels so will fully enjoy this one.

I suppose the last over was only tied when Stokes came back for a second run and as he dived for the crease the incoming ball hit his bat and deflected for four over throws, a complete fluke!
If Stokes had used his bat on purpose to defect the ball then he is out as a batsman can not interfere on the field of play. Convention is that the batsman does not run for over throws in that scenario but as the ball crossed the boundary then 4 is added to the 2 runs for a six!

Now I have admitted several times my lack of understanding of this cricket lark, but is this right? My understanding was that the boundary count to decide the winner applied to only the penalty shoot out overs. In getting 15 runs each, England hit 2 boundaries and NZ hit only 1 boundary. So England the winners because of the boundaries hit in the penalty shoot out super over not boundaries hit in the innings. I think....

What an incredible end to the game. The Boult ‘catch’ with foot on the boundary, the throw deflecting off Stokes’s bat, and so many other amazing twists and turns after England’s innings commenced. Brilliant. Just brilliant. Stokes had an absolute blinder and certainly will have put that Brathwaite over in the T20 Final to rest with today’s performance.

I don't profess to be the expert but I read we won because we hit 26 boundaries in the match to NZ's 17. Whether that figure includes the superovers (which logically it should, as an extension of the match) I don't know, but I care less! During the time I was in limbo in cyber wilderness, at the end of the super overs, I did wonder if wickets remaining might be the decider, but fortunately they weren't. That is correct. New Zealand knew they had to get more runs than us in the super over before they played it, However, Archer very sportingly bowled a wide to begin to negate that advantage so New Zealand only got 14 from their 6 balls

How can you 'dive' to get two runs, the ball hits your bat and goes for a four - almost as daft as the winning the Rugby Premiership title and then going into the play offs for the title <<shakes head>>

If the decision is based on which team scored the most boundaries during the course of the game then when the scores were 241-241 at the end of the game that should have been it - decided in England's favour as they hit the most boundaries. No point at all in having the super over. Mind you needing 15 to win from the last 4 balls was extremely unlikely until our chap after completing 2 runs managed to divert the ball away from the wicket keeper to the boundary to add another 4 runs. If you thought crazy golf was crazy - think again!

As I was staying at my abode without the tinternet over the weekend, I decided to sit and watch a bit of cricket...within three minutes I was bored shitless! How anyone can sit and watch that for the whole day (let alone five days) is beyond me!
I did though, give the match the benefit of the doubt and watched the last ten minutes or so...which I quite enjoyed!
After it was all over, I compared the match to the ending of the Lord of The Rings! When the Eagles came to pick up Frodo in Mordor, why didn't they just fly the ring there in the first bloody place...and save all the hastle?
The same as the cricket, instead of playing fifty overs, why don't they just play five? Then you get the excitement through the whole match, instead of 90% boredom and 10% enjoyment!

That film was on my bucket list, Reg, but now you've ruined it by revealing the ending! Don't worry, it's not a happy ending, one of the Eagles drops poor old Frodo and he's eaten by a load of Goblins...or Remoaners as they're called nowadays!

link - condensed 3 minutes version of last over plus the 2 super overs - still brings out the goosebumps! First got into cricket watching Botham’s Ashes and at Headingly that momentum shift was incredible to behold but that game did not have a patch on the final yesterday and even that 2 run win in the second test of the 2005 series was no where near in tension. Best match ever.

God was certainly smiling on the England team that day...or was it something else? The three incidents near the end: The one where the guy had the ball in his hand and then only had to literally hand the ball to his mate before stepping back over the line! I don't think there is a computer built, that could calculate the odds of that ball hitting the bat of the guy lying on the floor and then that same ball nearly flying out of the ground! Finally, from all that kerfuffle, England get an extra run from the ether! Yep, God was certainly moving mysteriously that day! Best team lost I'm afraid!
