Good 31 run win today but almost certainly need another win against New Zealand on Wednesday.

Good 31 run win today but almost certainly need another win against New Zealand on Wednesday. No question, in my mind. Can't see Pakistan messing up against Bangladesh. It now shows how costly that loss to Pakistan was. If we'd have won, as we were expected to, it would be all over and into the semis we'd be going. Three wins and we win the World Cup. If we do beat NZ then it would seem nailed on we’ll get India again in the semis. At Edgbaston again.

Three wins and we win the World Cup. It's being able to win the World Cup with 3 losses that I can't get my head around. I gave up on cricket in 1960 when I spotted that Yorkshire had scored 584 and Somerset had scored 213, and it was a draw!! I couldn't get my head around that. I gave up on advanced algorithms a few years later for the same reason!

Super win. 2 more and we lift the trophy. I'm pleased my slightly pessimistic attitude has been cast aside by England's last 2 performances. Dare we dream yet? Pretty comprehensive in the end - linkProbably peaking at the right time and we certainly look handy batting first particularly with Roy back from injury partnering Bairstow at the top of the order.

Looks pretty odds on we will get India at Edgbaston again. We’ve done it once and can do it again. India are better than Australia and New Zealand, but we can beat any of the other three (Pakistan won’t overcome NZ net run rate now) on our day and against two of them have shown it in the last week. I like this format of the competition and liked it in 1992 when we were runners up to Pakistan. The year of our last semi final qualification, apparently. Hadn’t realised that.

It will be England v Australia in the semi next week after they failed to win against South Africa. India v New Zealand in the other.

Today’s the day, England v Australia with New Zealand playing the winner in the final. As always, good toss to win.

Australia win the toss and bat first but lose 3 quick wickets to some great bowling from Archer and Woakes. Game on - existing partnership will be crucial!

Back on page 1, I was asked which of NZ, India and Australia might we beat. It’s been all three since then after the kick up the arse we needed. Let’s hope we can cap it off with another win against NZ on Sunday. We were phenomenal today and look to have come good at the right time in this tournament.

Final is here!
New Zealand win the toss and bat first. Bit of overnight rain and early cloud cover may give us the advantage bowling first thing,
Come on England! 1992 final is a long time ago now,
