TORQUAY United Football Club will be hosting two very special events in the next couple of weeks, as the build-up intensifies before the beginning of the new season.
The first-team will hold an open training session from 2pm – 4pm on Wednesday, July 25, with supporters invited to come in and watch before getting their signatures and selfies with the players.
From 4pm, we welcome the media for the annual team photo-shoot, an event exclusive to our invited sponsors to join the squad for team pictures from our official photographers at Pinnacle Photo Agency.
We then move forward to Tuesday, July 31 and from 6pm – 8pm, a brand new addition to the calendar, which will be exclusive to Torquay United season-ticket holders and sponsors, will see the presentation of the Gordon Oliver Trophy to the top player from 2017-18 in the Football Development Programme.
This celebration of our aspirations to restore an excellent football programme for young players at Torquay United will also be a chance for season-ticket holders to meet the chairman, coaching staff and players.
The season-ticket event on July 31 is available through pre-booking only. Please let us know if you plan on attending by emailing events@torquayunited.com
In all fairness it does mention the word 'chance' in the same sentence as meet the Chairman

Propoganda at its best!!!! Maybe he will have a scaled down model of the osborne arena for you seasom ticket holders too oggle over Check if the Reading/Swindon/Milton Keynes etc stickers have been removed. The Gordon Oliver Trophy!! Good grief. What has he done for TUFC? Are there not others who it could be named after who are more deserving? Osborne might even rock up if someone from the Torbay Development Agency is there to present the award. Would be laughable if not so tragic. What are the club doing about commentary on matches, btw. Anyone heard anything? So to speak... Hope the season ticket holders and youth players enjoy the evening. Sorry to the recipient that your award was named for the reasons it so obviously was, but a big well done from all supporters. Am guessing young Olaf will be very much in the running.

Funny as hell and too think some people choose to be taken in by this hyped up bullshit unbelievable but sadly true

I’m relying on AJ to add some inspirational satire on this one.

It almost (but not quite) pushes me to have some sympathy for TUST. An open training session with everyone invited along, take as many selfies with the players as you wish etc etc. Then, less than a week later, loyal season ticket buying fans can meet the players again for a chat, but not only that you can talk to the coaching staff and tell them we're doomed until a 6ft 3", 13 stone striker is signed, and then chat to Chairman Clarke and ask him what he estimates the average price of a house built on Plainmoor is likely to be. And it's the type of two way interaction and fan engagement that the TUST bang on about and no doubt claim the supporters clammer for. But then the stark reality of the evidence emerges. And it paints a very different picture. Across the Forums you'd be hard pressed to find one word of welcome for this. What is important to fans, and which must leave TUST tearing their hair out, are trivialities such as the name for a little prize to be given to a kid in the football development programme. Quite how the much awaited glossy virtue signaling brochure can include contents to cater to that mindset we'll have to see. You can't totally fill it with big photos of yet another group of smiling ethnically diverse kids being dropped off at Plainmoor by a happy and exceptionally well paid bus driver. The prestigious Oliver Awards are coming to Plainmoor, like it or not. Chelston will be hiring his dinner jacket from Moss Bros, and it will be a glittering black tie event, with the proceedings being broadcast live by Radio Devon. There'll be a representative from Truro City there, trying to flog cheap 'White Tigers' Season Tickets.....perhaps even our old friend Pete Masters as a surprise guest on the evening. A super curtain raiser to our promotion chasing season, and we should all be commending the club on these initiatives. Well done TUFC....bring on the Oliver Awards.

The Gordon Oliver Trophy!! Good grief. What has he done for TUFC? I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding here. Clarke Osborne wanted to show his knowledge of TUFC's history by selecting a memorable season and naming the trophy after two key players in that season. In the end he went with 2006/07, veteran defender Dean Gordon and youthful centre-forward Dean Oliver. Other names under consideration were the Mooney Laryea Shield and the Balatoni McQuoid Vase.

I really don't understand why most of you are so patient with this AJ fellow when he comes out with such absolute nonsense. I can only assume that some of you know him personally and have decided to keep humouring him because he is deluded and harmless.
On the other hand, perhaps he enjoys winding up fools like myself who will be inevitably drawn into responding out of sheer desperation after reading his ludicrous essays. I did say, some weeks ago, that I would simply scroll past whatever he says, but I simply can't help myself. I even find myself looking forward to his next set of comments about how socialism is ruining football. Well done, Alpine Joe, you have regained my full attention, but never forget why.
And nobody has as yet explained to me why his posts do not have a Quote button.

I think most of us are baffled as to why he keeps recycling the same old bullshit, but could not be bothered to argue with him.

Great post, well remembered some of the worst players ever to play for the club.
