www.torquayunited.com/news/article/2016-17/the-list-3709041.aspxThere you have it pretty much agree with most of it. Need players who really want to be here and the players def offered contracts I would say have been the most consistent though some may argue not so in Courtney's case. Consistency is and will be key to a better season and would be happy to see Miles Anderson and GG back at the club both gave us all they had in the closing weeks and in general we were ok over the season defensively. A little surprised Harrad being offered something to sign also. Who will re sign out of that group offered terms? - We all want Youngy to sign again but I feel this will be a big decision for him and expect plenty of interest form rivals. Ruari Keating is a must as with Sparky who I feel can be so much better in a more successful side. Love to think Brendan Moore will resign - one of the major pluses for me in a dire season. I do fear that some will get better offers and be off and Nico will be left to rebuild a fresh squad around Arman Verma, Courtney Richards, Damon Lathrope and Sam Chaney.

Thanks for posting that. Interesting in that there are yes, no and maybe options from Nico.

Thanks for that Pete, I'm surprised that he wants to keep most of the squad, especially Richards.

Pretty uninspiring thus far. If all the players that have been offered contracts sign, then we have the nucleus of a team that looks mid-table at best. We shall have to see if any inspirational players arrive in time for the new campaign to provide the squad that "little bit extra" that will be needed to challenge for places towards the top of the league.

Disappointed regarding Williams. Knows where the net is. Played more regularly throughout the season, he would be there or thereabouts 20 for the season. Under our noses and we are effectively letting him go. Poor decision.

This gives us a rough outline of Kev's thinking, but no clear picture emerges yet. Some of those we think could be heading out could well end up staying and vice versa. I probably expected slightly more drastic pruning initially, but it'll be quite a while yet before the 2017/18 squad takes shape.
Key points to bear in mind are Kev's enthusiasm as a result of his meeting with the club's owner: 'I have now held the initial close-season talks with the owner Clarke Osborne and I feel hugely enthusiastic for the summer ahead'. In addition, Kev reports that discussions with Geoff Harrop and Dave Hedges have: 'helped to give me a clear pathway to build a strong squad'.
Such unambiguous comments from the Manager clearly run contrary to some of the suggestions to be found on the Forums, and a reminder again to beware of 'Fake News'.....there's a lot of it out there. I think the intention is to build the business gradually and sustainably, which involves investing and improving in many different aspects, not blowing all your cash on players wages. So while we hope for a strengthened and improved squad, it will have to be done sensibly, and not expected to be achieved predominantly by wielding the cheque book.
However, to see King Kev proclaiming that: 'We have a real chance to be a force next season', is no bad thing. A sustainable improvement, clear of any end of season relegation worries will satisfy me. Combined with, hopefully, some progress on bigger projects off the field.

“When it really mattered, Brett came in with the goals that kept us in the division. His performances against Braintree and Dover were massive for the club, and we all know he is a special finisher. It is now time to reflect before deciding the next path for Brett, but if he does re-sign for United, we know there are guaranteed goals in the squad". - Nico
Guaranteed goals, eh! Probably one of those offered less money, then.

What you don't seem to get is that the fans of the club are not interested in "building the business" or in "bigger projects off the field". What they want is enough money to be spent on improving the playing squad so that promotion back to the League can be achieved. If Mr Osbourne is not prepared to do that, then it only reinforces the belief that all he wants is to obtain the freehold of the ground in order to make a profit from a housing development. Surely you can see that ?

We had money chucked at the club by a previous benefactor and although promotion was achieved, the walls came tumbling down when that funding was removed. Imagine if the millions required were ploughed in but promotion wasn't achieved, the club continued to lose money and the owners decided to call it a day. If they were to require repayment of those monies then the club really would be dead and buried. Whatever Osbourne's intentions toward the club are, surely the sensible way forward is to build the business utilising projects off the field; a gradual process maybe, but one that would see the club hopefully achieve the hoped-for success, but in a sustainable way. I wonder if fans only want to have Osbourne spend the sort of money that would get promotion back to the league to alleviate the fears that he is in fact a predator. Who knows what the true intentions are as regards our club, but throwing that sort of money at it won't achieve the stability needed at Plainmoor. I have no idea myself, but I would rather a sensible plan be put into operation than a gung-ho approach that could see us finished.

I would agree wholeheartedly with this if we had an owner I could trust. Unfortunately Osborne's track record suggests otherwise and his complete failure to even acknowledge these concerns doesn't help to alleviate the worries of the fanbase.

But surely when discussing the future of the club it is irrelevant whether the owner is trusted or not, there's nothing we as fans can do about that but cross our fingers and hope. What I am saying is this is the only way forward irrespective of the motives. Throwing serious money at the club in the short-term to attempt a promotion so that the fans can be convinced an owner's intentions are honourable is asking for trouble. More so if there are concerns as to an owners intentions as it leaves the club open to future financial woes.

I' m not disagreeing with you. I agree that throwing money at the club isn't the answer and in fact I think the way Osborne is approaching it is the way I would want any owner to go. I just don't expect it to turn out well as I don't believe he has the long term interests of the club at heart.

Nitty gritty time now; We know the manager. We know the players who we want to keep. We know the players leaving. I suppose we will have a sense of the direction of travel once we know how many of the 7 players offered terms decide to hang out with TUFC next season? We're stuffed if few do!

I have no idea myself, but I would rather a sensible plan be put into operation than a gung-ho approach that could see us finished. I am afraid that bird has flown. Clarke Osborne reckons he has already charged half a million of debt against the club. I say "charged half a million of debt against the club" rather than "spent half a million on the club" deliberately. He wants the freehold so he can reclaim his "expenditure" from the sale proceeds. It is essential that he does not get the freehold. I could weep when I think that we had a debt-free club two years ago. That was the base from which to build a sustainable future but the Phillips regime decided to run up debts from dubious sources and then hawk around the Plainmoor freehold. People like Osborne are what they are and do what they do. What hurts far more is being stabbed in the back by those you thought you could trust.
