I bet we have all had a pie or something else to eat at a ground, that tasted so good, we thought we were in heaven, mind you maybe some food you had at a ground was the worst rubbish you have ever eaten.
I know I was making noises on here about the prices of the food at Plainmoor this season, I just felt it made the day even more expensive when money is more tight for many.Well that was until I had a few car problems and was late getting to the ground, very hungry as I had not had time to eat.
I bought a steak and Kidney pie and loved it so much I now get one at every game. Where have you enjoyed football food the most and what was the worst you have had, not only for taste but poor service or expensive prices.

Tend not buy much food inside the ground, although the Balti Pies at Colchester (the year we needed 1 point to stay up and basically never turned up) were good.
The Cottage Pies at Kiddi I hear (and see and smell) are good.
The Cheeseburgers at Plainmoor are nice.
Much prefer to have a steak and a few jars before away matches.

I've never actually bought one of the Nourish pies at Plainmoor, because I am usually there after some lovely home cooking from my mum's own oven, and there is no bakery in the world that can beat that.
But I have had one of those pies from the shop in St Marychurch, and can honestly say they are the best pies I have eaten from a bakery outside New Zealand, where the quality is just superior in all ways.
Other memorable footy ground eats: Kidderminster's cottage pies Cambridge's bacon rolls Hampton and Richmond's burgers - home made and 50p extra for the best onions you can find Ebbsfleet's hot dogs - about the only good thing there!!
Worst: Leyton Orient's meat of some kind (perhaps) burgers Wembley's anything because it was all expensive pap (old stadium and the new one)
Best just outside: Rochdale fish and chip shop just behind the away stand

At the Torquay v. Hillingdon Borough game in 1977 FA Cup (we lost), someone obviously found a pasty disagreeable. I can remember some disgruntled pasty eating fan lobbing it with deadly accuracy from the popside into the Hilligdon fans in the mini stand. I can see the square bits of potato coming out now as it arced over everyones heads until hitting an unsuspecting Hillingdon supporter right in the crook of his neck. The shocked look on his face was priceless. Luckily it was a flakey one, not shortcrust. Is it true that Torquay fans eat more pasties (pro rata) than any other supporters in the country.

I had a Chicken and Mushroom Pie at the Lewes match and it were reet lovely. First pie i've ever had at a match, so I can't compare it but it was so filling, I couldn't even finish it! I also went for a carvery in 'Number 10's' before the Cambridge game. I'd recommend it to anyone. Plenty of choice of veggies and 3 types of meat. For £7.95, you can't go wrong. Best part was walking through the crowds in the gulls nest at half time, getting a drink straight away in the empty bar and sitting back at the table to drink it. I was also told by the staff, that you can stay in the Gulls nest and watch the game through the windows with a drink if you want to. Not my cup of tea, but if you get a table or comfy chair by the window....

Burgers at Woking were utterly grim.
Kiddie Cottage Pies are heaven, but their tea is bleurgh.

QPR was pretty awful: ordered a hot dog and was asked if i wanted onions. Said yes and then watched the young lady dispense some manky dried onions from a container affixed to the wall - which like they had been sat there since the season before. Yuk.
By all accounts the prawn sandwiches at Old Trafford are second to none.

Am I the only Vegetarian Here? / As a result I find it difficult to buy food inside grounds, I once asked one of the girls at Plainmoor what she had for veggies , she said........................"polos" That said i have great memories of a lady who used to work at the cafe in the pop who would keep a few veggie sausages for me and her daughter and do them "special" ("but don't tell everyone"). It all changed when it got taken over. Bristol rovers did great pizza pies, and some grounds do cheese and onion pasties.................apart from that we are a diversity need still in need! Enjoy your turkey everyone!

Enjoy your turkey everyone! Vegetarians = Attention seekers. As the great Frankie Boyle said on Mock the Week. "Yes there is a vegetarian option sir, you can f$&k off! ;D Only joking Jamie. I was a vegetarian for 4 years. It was the bacon sandwich that had me back on the meat. Chicken and Mushroom Pies should only be consumer by homosexuals IMHO though. Chicken, Mushrooms, creamy sauce, gold foil tray? It all adds up to a type of chap who doesn't enjoy the taste of kippers in my book. Having said that, does anyone else have mates from oop north who don't like kidney in their steak pies? Is offal just too posh for northern palettes? Andy S - Kiwi pies have no competition in my book. There's a fantastic bakery in Dunedin in the centre. The only thing actually going for Dunedin apart from the Speight's brewery. It was closed however when we got there so it was Cadbury World for us complete with Ooompah Loompahs in purple dungarees. I refused to go in the glass lift though. As for the best and worst. Best Gillingham - Steak and Spitfire Ale pie with almost a 7"" diameter. I wonder if they still sell them Rochdale - Lovely Meat and Potato pie for £1.80. The highlight of the day after we lost 4-1 and sight of Richard Hancox masquerading as a 4th division football for the second time in his career. Kidderminster - An absolute legend. Worth every penny. Eastbourne - Sausage and chips wasn't bad and they had a whole ton of stuff on the menu. Worst Rushden and Diamond's - The Diamond Burger. Looks lovely but the meat is from a can of Winalot. Bideford - Half time BBQ burger with meat straight from Hilary Briss's special stuff fridge. I had a nose bleed driving back across the moors. Evil in a bap.

For a man to eschew meat is about as natural as a squirrel hunting down a wildebeest and tearing it to pieces just before taking high tea. I rarely eat in football grounds but out of necessity (extreme cold and - ermm, hunger) I too hugely enjoyed the sausage and chips at Eastbourne. Tucked up in my five layers of clothing, flat capped and scarved and sat in the back of the stand; I paid an extra quid for a second sausage and added a properly made Bovril to the feast, covering the chips in plenty of ketchup. I'm sure the finger licking good taste would have been even better had I taken my thermal gloves off! Mind you, I had already devoured the "best pasty in the world" at Fontwell Park. I'm told they are made with "prime steak", but as I purchased mine just after a rather modest selling hurdle; I'd rather not vouch for that!

Merse... As you have no idea who I am you'll be surprised to know I have access to the following information! It is believed the reason you rarely eat in the grounds is that you find a small eaterie close by before the match from which to sate your appetite. Was it not you knocking back a rather tasty lunch with pint by the canal in the New Inn at Woking...?

Well I've got a better idea now Budleigh! That's my idea of feeding my face and my usual "modus operandi" rather than taking my chances with a "rawburger" and plenty of sauce on the terraces. We returned to the New Inn at Send after the match too. They were fixing a robotic talking mooses head (reindeer?) to the wall that picks up the fact that you have approached the bar and starts talking to you.....................honest guv, I was sober! The last time I saw one of those it had a "Jim Davidson" mode which harangued the unsuspecting victim with obscenities...................mind you, on that occasion I had been drinking; so maybe it wasn't a robot!

I only knew it was you as one of our party divulged the info after you'd popped over for a chat... It went along the lines of... 'oh, that's Merse'... after which nothing more needed saying! Reindeer head? Thought the grotto as we walked into the New Inn was bad enough... A certain member of our party, no names mentioned to save embarrassement, was actually looking for Santa so he could sit on his knee and ask for a Christmas wish!

Well one of our party ( TB1 ) had the job but got ejected after he refused to sit down.....................he'll be appearing in court (again) in the New Year - do you know a good solicitor? I bet you do!
