How similar we are, Reg. I remember being threatened numerous times in the early 80's by black guys in Kenya, who didn't like the fact that a 'colonial' was dating a black - one of 'theirs' - woman. Nothing ever got physical because although I am not built like a brick shithouse I can handle myself, and they were never brave enough to check if it was true. I smile at the definition of racism these days; basically any white person making the mildest comments is a racist. If you're an Indian being derogatory to a Pakistani, that's OK' cos they're 'ancient enemies' When I lived in London in the 70's, the racial tension was amongst all races. Blacks didn't like Chinese and vice-versa. Indians and Pakistanis never get on, and so on. The only common denominator is that none of them liked the white people, even though it was the white people's country they had come to. Now we are a multi-racial, multi-cultural society but despite it all, the tensions remain. And in my mind, although it's called racism, it's actually a natural defense mechanism. Since time began, people and animals, have always been wary of those that are not of their own ilk. In our educated society, because we can talk, that feeling can be vocalised. In the animal kingdom, communication is through body language and physical deterrence so they just attack and drive any interlopers off their territory. Being 'the superior race' we have decided that such natural behaviour is not acceptable (except when we go to war, of course - then it's OK) but deep down we're still all tuned that way. Why else would so many of us we have such distaste for the other nationalities? Brexit it is then! Shit, does this mean we actually agree on something florida!

As expected, my little expose on racism fell on deaf ears. Then again, if you think the entire population of the planet is stupid and beneath you, you're not going to suffer anyone trying to explain anything to you!

I am sure that racist people will be voting for the wrong reasons on this but that is not the question and should not influence how you should vote on this. I don't think I have spoken to anyone who has said the EU is perfect in its present form and even remainers want to see change as it is evident that catastrophic mistakes have been made during its formation. The question is can effective reform be undertaken? Will we be better off in or out for the long haul? Questions really that only come down to a balance of probabilities as there are so many unknowns!
We are certainly at a crossroads but whatever way the country votes democracy most be respected and everyone must get behind the decision to forge the best possible path for all our futures.

While the more intelligent than me, leave minded people (Alpine Joe) are out there trying to put across the intellectual side of things, I will try and put my reasons for voting leave across.
I suppose you could describe me as a latter-day Carson the Butler...I hanker for the old days. The old days, when the rules by which we were governed , came from our own elected members of Parliament, not from unelected people and the Reichstag! Of course we had crap rules from our own government...but they were our crap rules! Some people with deluded minds, think that it matters if a certain person or party attain power in this country...though strangely enough, don't seem to mind that the elected members of parliament of this country, aren't actually in charge of this country! Does anybody in their right mind think there is an iota of difference if Blair, Brown, Cameron or Corbett* are in charge!
The old days, when their was no mass migration (ere Mars# that old racist is at it again) and we had control of our borders/parliament/rules that govern us/ad infinitum! I was brought up in Edginswell in the 60s and 70s, and in those days it was classed as a Hamlet, now I see , that they are intending to build 500 houses on top of it...you don't have to be that intelligent to know why that is happening! Pressure on housing, schools, hospitals ad infinitum, and people still can't see it! Fortunately, I now live in a very quiet (except in the summer when you get all the bloody midges and tourists) and secluded part of the Yorkshire Dales, and constantly get told how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful spot, and not have to live with the problems they have to live with because of our open borders!
Some people will of course throw all sots of abuse at that, simply because they are unable to see or understand it!
*Well, maybe with Corbett in charge it would make a difference! The frightening thing is, there is a possibility at the end of the year that there will be a general election (why do they bother if we are no longer governed by the people we put there anyway) because of Cameron being booted out. Imagine the state the country would be like if Corbett got into power! At least he has a chance of being elected, unlike when the abhorrent Blair just plonked the odious Brown in charge! What contempt for the British people that was by Labour! Of course the most frightening thing is, we seem to have PM's in alphabetical order..B.B.C...so surely, not another c! Though I suppose F is not so far away!
#It will become clearer later.

I've enjoyed the Referendum debate. I've been caught out by how close the opinion polls are claiming things to be as we approach these final few days. Given the sophistication and advancements that have been made in propaganda techniques, while I assumed the great mass of the electorate was as gullible as ever, I was sure that the Establishment should have been able to build a comfortable 20% lead by now to ensure it's backing. I also based that prediction on the broadcast media now having greater infliuence than the old print media. I was sure that the combined influence of BBC, ITV, C4 would successfully garner the votes for 'Remain'. However, even if you only analyse the newspapers, it's just The Express (with a pitifully low readership) The Sun and The Daily Mail (The Mail on Sunday has come out in favour of 'Remain' today) who are backing the 'Leave' side. I'm still expecting that the Remain side, or 'Project Fear' as it's often also known, will get most votes on Thursday, even though my cross will be in the opposing box. Just as the Scots would have romped to Independence based on the male vote, the prolonged campaign foreseeing unemployment, isolation, no currency, (as we weren't going to let them use the pound) really does work more effectively given the natural instincts of the female voter. Months of project fear should mean that Mums, daughters, wives and grannies, when stood in that polling booth, will find it more of a struggle to vote for the option that will trigger World War Three, economic catastrophe, and the total demise of Western civilisation than we blokes with our 'Bring it on, you little liar Osborne' mentality. Whether there'll be a Sisterly or otherwise Solidarity vote sentimentally backing Jo Cox's preferred option I'm not so sure, although I did read this comment yesterday, which probably indicates the best way to view such a thing should it happen: To be honest, if this swings the referendum then the people deserve the shafting they'll get over the next 30 years. If enough of the population are so easily manipulated then they probably couldn't survive in an independent country anyway.
I'm particularly relaxed about the Referendum outcome having witnessed other countries being required to vote numerous times until they got it 'right', and the way E.U technocrats have been parachuted in to head up countries that tried rebelling. I just can't see that, given their track record, they'd shake hands, say cheerio and let us go our own way. Just like the Bates Motel you can probably check out, but you can never leave.....which I'll tie in with rjd's advice below rjdgull So many people seem to be saying things along the line of 'My postman is voting leave, and he says all those at his depot except one or two, are voting leave also' The council manual worker is voting leave, and so are the women who work on the production line for Jacobs cream crackers. The Referendum may well be one final glorious stand by the traditional British manuel worker, before that class dies out for good. The new soft handed generation, mostly kept in classrooms until they're 18, neither want to, or will be capable of such work. The Welsh and Scots will vote 'In', as E.U cash flows in to them, the middle class with desk jobs will vote to stay in. rjd's point would becomes really interesting in the event of a 'Leave' vote. The Civil Service, the Government, the schools and Universities, every pubic agency or body that would be tasked with determining that 'future path' towards independence is packed to the rafters with 'Remainers'. Not the best people under the circumstance I would suggest, to be the ones forging that path to our 'independent' future. Now if the vote goes the other way and we vote to stay. Does it make the slightest difference if the working class all clip an 'I love the E.U' badge to their jackets ? They don't make the decisions, they don't have the power, their wages will continue to be forced down by the massive influx of new cheap labour that heads into the country. If they do or if they don't join the Left in holding up big banners saying 'Welcome Migrants', nothing will change, the numbers of migrants coming here to compete for their jobs won't change. They can send a completely different set of MEP's to Brussels from Britain and nothing will change. Lose and they've lost for good. Whether they get behind the decision or whether they don't, they're finished, whereas a vote the other way and the losers would have the power to reck things totally.......and I wouldn't trust them not to. rjdgull Rjd is quite right in saying that people want change. I think Cameron wanted at least some proper change that he could point to, when saying that without it he was going to struggle to win the referendum. But if it wasn't granted in those circumstances, is there really a serious case of expecting change, rather than just saying you'd like to see it one day ? I also believed that it was conventional wisdom that whatever mistakes have been made, they certainly didn't pertain to the formation of the E.U. That enormous care, and many years were taken up in getting that exactly right, to ensure that it works in just the way it was intended to. Elected politicians can come and go, but that wouldn't interfere with the overall project of building the European super state. Those initial building blocks of formation are rock solid. I think a 'catostrophic mistake' would have been addressed long before now....the plans surrounding the formation are what they're most pleased with, are the driving power base of the E.U and haven't been nor will be touched. A little cosmetic window dressing here and there now and again for one or other of the home audiences, but nothing substantial that would involve laying a finger on those undemocratic principals of formation. Will Thomas Mair's actions have changed the course of British history ? By Thursday will he be recognised as the most influential British person of the 21st Century so far, as we ponder whether he was responsible for setting the nation onto a different future path than the one we would otherwise have taken, had it not been for his act of murderous madness? One thing that probably is worth remembering, if we've been subjected to this much European control when they thought we weren't too keen on their dictatorial ways, just think what a guts full we'll get when we've actually given them a mandate saying we're in favour of it .

As it happens still weighing up the issues but leaning towards leaving. Sovereignty is an issue I have and you may appreciate this ARTICLE some of which resonates with me. To be honest, would not mind ending up in EFTA.

I was unable to look at the ARTICLE, but I have already posted my form with my signature in the leave box, so all I can do now is sit back and keep the Champagne on ice! In fact, as this thing is doing my head in (something for my psychiatrist to sort out on Wednesday) I'm not going to look at this thread or anything to do with this bloody referendum until Friday morning!

Aussie Well done Aussie, but now that they've got Project Grief ramped up to the max as well, I'm struggling to maintain much optimism for a 'Leave' victory. It's blatant, as the front pages of today's newspapers show, but Cameron will use anyone, dead or alive, if he thinks it might gain him an extra vote or two. Meanwhile, the last few days should produce some really dirty tricks, as the finishing line is now in sight. The establishment has thrown the kitchen sink at Leave in the past few days. A vote for Brexit is now a vote for hatred and division when, of course, the alternative is a vote for the order, harmony and peace of the EU – just don’t mention the riots and suicides in Greece, the barbed wire on Eastern European borders, the imminent new crisis in the Eurozone, the swift decline of the European economies, the violence and crime spawned by mass migration.
Yet are the people cowed by this orchestrated bullying by the elites? Perhaps not. Anecdotally, one hears that outside London and the big cities, there is overwhelming support for Brexit.

Well as the pound in my pocket is apparently worth virtually nothing now I must pass on my thanks to the great British public for making entry to Plainmoor out of the price range of the ordinary person (although according to Farage this is a victory for ordinary people and decent people so I obviously do not fall into that category!)
