To all fans of Torquay United FC and organisations,
We would like to thank you all very much for all of your comments, good and bad. In the last couple of days Colin has had the pleasure of speaking to Michael Goulbourne, Chairman of the TUST, on the phone and we would like inform you of the following:
1. A few weeks ago Colin, Shaun and Keira had arranged a meeting to discuss purchasing Torquay United FC with the board of directors. However, upon being invited into the Chairman’s office they were greeted not only by the Chairman of TUFC, Mr David Phillips but also Mr Peter Masters, Chairman of Truro City FC! Although the Chairman of TUFC was in attendance as well as Mervyn Balson, Vice Chairman of TUFC, joining us 20 minutes or so into the meeting; they were shocked to note that it was Pete Masters chairing the meeting and not Dave Phillips. Dave Philips was asked why Pete Masters was at the meeting when it involved the serious matter of the purchase of TUFC. Pete Masters responded stating “Not here to answer your questions.” Colin then asked Dave Phillips and Mervyn what was going on. Unfortunately, it was quite clear that Pete Masters was answering all question on behalf of TUFC. It was also very clear that when Colin asked Dave Phillips and Pete Masters for clarification; Pete Masters responded by saying “You had better be careful what you ask for or there will be repercussions.” We believe that this was a clear threat to back off. This can be heard clearly on the digital recording of the meeting. Colin, Shaun and Keira ended the meeting a few minutes later.
2. Shortly afterwards, it was announced that the ground share with Truro would not be proceeding; no explanation was given about what would happen to the £36,000 that was paid in to TUFC by Pete Masters. Strangely, the cheque did not come from Truro City Football Club, but from Elm Tree Estates Ltd, of which Pete Masters is one of two directors; coincidently, the cheque was for a very similar amount to the amount each of the current directors of TUFC originally invested, Colin has made it very clear that, in his opinion, Torquay United Fans Ltd have been deceived since November 2015when we made our original enquiries into purchasing the club! Furthermore, we also believe that this means that the TUFC fans have also been deceived. This has cost the company in the region of £14 000 in losses due to legal advice and due diligence checks. Thanks to the due diligence, we discovered that none of the directors, with the exception of Dave Phillips and Dean Edwards, were registered either as directors or shareholders. We informed the board as a matter of urgency about this so that this could be rectified as soon as possible.
3. As we mentioned at the beginning of this letter, Colin has had the pleasure of speaking to Michael from the TUST on several occasions, Michael has recently informed Colin that the TUST also have had a meeting with TUFC and to Colin’s horror it appears once again Pete Masters was in attendance alongside Steve Breed and Dave Phillips. Coincidently, it appears that Pete Masters was speaking on behalf of TUFC. Pete Masters walked out of the meeting, followed by Dave Philips, which left Steve Breed holding the bag, and having to inform the TUST that TUFC want nothing to do with them. In our opinion, this clearly shows us that they were stringing professional organisations along, including TU Fans Ltd & the TUST, in order to buy time to set up the alliance between TUFC and Gaming International (including Riviera Stadium Ltd; incorporated on 22ndMarch 2016).
4. We have spoken to both the Planning and Leisure departments at Torbay Council and contrary to Dave Phillips statement to the BBC and the article in the Herald Express on the 3rd February 2016, they have confirmed that no enquiries or applications have been made to build a new stadium for TUFC anywhere in Torbay. Maybe Gordon Oliver, Mayor of Torbay, could confirm details of the supposed proposals by informing the fans, who was at the breakfast business meeting at the beginning of February? Furthermore; can he confirm what documents he has seen to authenticate the statements made to the BBC? From our research into the article, so far we have no evidence that any such talks, enquiries or applications have been made, other than ours when investigating these matters further. Should anyone wish to find out more, then we recommend that you ask TUFC for the name and registration number of the American Company that is/was supposedly involved.
The good news is that Plainmoor will not be developed until a new stadium has been built; we can confidently state this because, we, along with the TUST and other international organisations would raise the money to buy the grounds so that TUFC, regardless of what happens to them in the future, will have a home ground to play on. Who, other than the registered directors, is putting money in every month to cover TUFC costs, is the money a gift or does it have to be paid back at a later date? We would all be willing to come on board and help, but without the involvement of Pete Masters, any individual/companies associated with him or whom want to squash TUFC& develop the site for financial gain. This said; if Dave Phillips and all the directors of TUFC are in so much trouble or that they feel pressured into agreeing with the current course of action and cannot see their way out, all they have to do is ask for help.
We believe that Pete Masters is more involved in TUFC than is required. After all Truro have now pulled out of the ground share so why are TUFC still allowing/encouraging Pete Masters involvement? We have attached a chain of emails to this letter to support our concerns and again question why is Mr Masters so central to many decisions in regards to TUFC? Please see the tweet, here at , and emails attached to this letter.
We know that current boards original intentions were sincere, but in our opinion, they have been coerced onto the path they are currently following. It is not too late to ask for help, especially from organisations that are made up of true Yellow Army fans, like both TU fans Ltd and the TUST. We truly want TUFC not only to survive but to develop as a local football club and feel certain that the support would be there. Therefore, we feel that it would be beneficial to have a member of the TUST and TU Fans Ltd on the board.
We would like to wish everybody health and happiness and may the Yellow Army continue to march on.
Yours sincerely
