I thought Lolos went to Oxford City. Am I wrong? (Yes, quite often but I meant specifically Lolos going to the University town...) You are not wrong. Lolos scored from the penalty spot for Oxford City on Saturday, his fourth goal in four league games. Correct, read it wrong ☹️

No worse than the current crop so whats gone wrong? I wondered that myself but you have to take into account he is now playing against part-timers. I also wonder if he has decided to grow up this season. I seem to remember the Plymouth manager saying he could be a good striker "if he wanted to be".

Daniel George Holman bagged a double brace on Saturday as Northampton O.N. Chenecks beat Buckingham Athletic 7-0 in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round. 31 hardy souls were there to witness the occasion according to the FA Website here: Link: fulltime.thefa.com/displayFixture.html?id=23209227 It's an interesting club, ostensibly formed to allow pupils at rugby-playing Northampton Grammar School to play football Link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northampton_ON_Chenecks_F.C.. The Chenecks part of the name being formed from letters of the School Houses: Chipseys, Sp encer, B eckett and St Crispins. Which is pretty random, you might as well call yourselves Old Northampton CSBS. It also grossly undersells St Crispins House! The Old Northamptonians Association was established by one Edward Reynolds in 1919 in memory of the 94 members of staff, sixth formers, and leavers of Northampton Grammar School who had lost their lives in the First World War. He thought it would provide a way for former pupils to maintain friendships and to continue playing sport. It was another 26 years before the football club was set up, playing at under-17 level in the Northampton Minor Leagues. They eventually made the move to adult football and joined the Unitd Counties League in 1969 and have been at various levels of that league ever since. Until last season when they were relegated out of Premier League South (Non-League Step 5) and now find themselves in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One (Step 6). The only esteemed ex-player mentioned on Wiki is Jim Hall who played for Peterborough United in the late 60s and early 70's. Of course he has played at Plainmoor: Link: Peterborough United(H). 10/02/73.Link: Peterborough United(H). 07/05/74.I was at the final game of the 1973-74 season and was obviously oblivious to the significance of the Posh number 9, assuming he played. So what on earth is Holman doing at The Chenecks? According to Wiki he was born in Northampton and played for ON Chenecks as an 11- and 12-year old. I suppose without a club, and possibly still living in the area, it was a good choice for him to get some regular playing time. In the Second Qualifying Round, Chenecks are away at Harpenden Town.

Jim Hall? His most famous Plainmoor appearance starred Pat Kruse and a stopwatch.

Jim Hall? His most famous Plainmoor appearance starred Pat Kruse and a stopwatch. Really? My Rothmans from that year is [somewhere] up in the loft so I wasn't able to check if he had played in that game. Did he pass it back to be hoofed forwards onto Kruse's head, or did he hoof it forwards for Kruse to nod back to Terry Lee. Who was coming out to catch it. Uh-oh!

Disappointed that you would doubt me Rags! He was up front with Tom Finney (not the real one) and Rod Stewart lookalike Alan Biley. Couldn’t tell you what role he played in that record breaking goal. When the BNA uploads 1977 Heralds I will let you know if Dave Thomas reported such detail.

When the BNA uploads 1977 Heralds I will let you know if Dave Thomas reported such detail. No, no! I didn't doubt you - it was poor wording on my part. What I meant was that thanks to handwritten changes on the programmes uploaded by timbo for the Peterborough games I was able to conclude with some certainly that Hall had played in those matches. There weren't any changes on the Cambridge programme on this site and I was unable (too lazy) to go up into the loft and try and find my old Rothmans to see if he had played. Therefore I only mentioned the two Peterborough games in my piece. When you followed up by saying that he had played in the Cambridge match I expressed surprise in a " Wow, I didn't know that" way rather than a " Are you sure about that. I need to check your statement myself" way. I never doubt you, Jon; those who do inevitably live to regret it!

Delighted to see Jamie Reid's 2 goals Saturday to beat Crewe Alex. That's 4 for the season and good to see him doing OK as not all seems to have gone his way since he left the Gulls. Best of luck Jamie and see you back here one day ? I've been in Wiltshire the last few months and have popped in to see Melksham Town FC. I noticed a certain Chris Zebrowski in the stands - he's on their books now and last Saturday against Lymington, he was one of 3 subs for the last half hour and the game turned. 0-2 down he scored the second, drifting across the edge of the penalty area and banging in an equaliser before the 3-2 ! Now 35 he's been drifting around that area for a few years also playing for Supermarine (yours truly featured there in the Youth teams nearly 60 years ago) and others. Zeb's touches and skills still evident. Going back to the first home game, the Assistant Manager of MTFC, Nathan Rudge, who was manically voluble throughout, went bananas with the Ref and received a yellow card, then turning around and kicking a plastic water bottle full pelt past my right ear at the touchline fence. Having been red carded as a result, he sat in the stands where I hopefully remonstrated with him and he roundly told me to eff off of course. A 'sorry' would have been better. If the Ref had made a full report, Rudge would surely have received a ban. Discussions later ensued with the MTFC Chairman. In the next 2 games, he has been quieter barring one full blast sentence on Saturday ingeniously including 4 effings. That game was against newly promoted Exmouth, and it was good to to see in total contrast, a dignified Kevin Hill quietly helping along his Players. Exmouth won 1-3. So much for the screaming, shouting and dissent on the home bench . . . .
As for the Gulls, let's hope it comes together. It's early days . . . .

In other news, Holman didn't start, nor was on the bench, for the Chenecks 1-0 defeat at Harpenden in the Vase. Despite this the bloke beside me confidently told me that the Northampton number 9 played for Torquay in the Conference last season. I was about to correct him but decided against it. The number 9 got sent off before half time for two bookable offences. And he looked about as different to Holman as it is possible for any Chenecks player to look!
