This is the first game of a busy Christmas period with 5 games in 15 games, the end of which, we will be two thirds of the way through our league campaign. This is a new fixture to me and even Barts is yet to make his way over to this Essex ground!
After finishing just outside the play offs last season, Braintree are floundering just above the relegation zone but have pulled out of the hat the odd occasional result with home wins against Wrexham and Bristol Rovers. Their last 10 results may tell a story with them only scoring in two of them, games which they both won. Also, six of those games have ended up with 1-0 scorelines, only one of which was in their favour! However, the part timers have been plagued by injuries with top scorers, (5 goals each) striker Jordan Cox and midfielder Kenny Davis only recently returning from injury, the former only being an 84th minute sub last Saturday! Their manager is Alan Devonshire, a name that suits the Westcountry somewhat...
There is both good and bad news on the Torquay injury front. The good news is very good as MacDonald has been cleared to play this weekend with very little cover in that position as Downes is still suspended! Cameron is suffering with his teeth and has been sent home but suspect he will be available for that boxing day fixture with a Torquay legend coming home!
Otherwise, the team is fairly sorted with maybe just Berry still out at right back. Selection wise, Hargreaves has to work out whether to play Briscoe on the wing or supporting Bowman up front with either Chappell or Ofori-Acheampong filling the other vacant position with the latter getting the nod in the last game, which, bearing in mind the result, the same team is likely to run out again.
