Whilst I respect everyone's views on this subject it doesn't bother me a bit what luke did or didn't do last week and you can call me whatever name you like Susan!

Well there are definitely two camps on the Young issue. My stance is that he should not have been at Argyle doing the half time draw. And I pose the question, can you ever imagine an Argyle player doing the same at Plainmoor. No you can't, it's never happened before and probably never will. The Torquinians have had it easy on this. I live in the South Hams where there is division between Argyle and Torquay support with lots of good humoured banter. Three Argyle supporters have mentioned to me about Young being at Home Park - how was it allowed to happen? - why wasn't he with the team? I understand the situation he found himself in and accept it was 'dropped on his toes' and that it wasn't planned, fine. Unlike Stefano I do think he should have been at Aldershot. Over reaction has been used frequently during this thread but I think the biggest over reaction is posters saying what a trial it would be for Luke Young to travel to faraway Aldershot. Anyone would think it was Brora Rangers he was visiting. Also that he deserved a rest, well he got that from being booked so often. The case for travel and rest is over stated and smacks of clutching at straws. I think Luke is a great player and has been a great signing so no qualms about his ability. On televised football we see injured, dropped or suspended team mates sitting in the stands watching their team play. Think of Frank Lampard being at Stamford Bridge doing the half time draw (or whatever it is they do) while injured - as he is at the moment - while Man City are losing to away to Newcastle or whatever. We all have different viewpoints, it doesn't matter, I respect the views of the people on here. No need for any nastiness. On this issue some staunch loyal supporters think differently and have expressed their thoughts, exactly what a forum is all about. I agree with you and Chelston that our captain should have been at Aldershot. All I said in a previous post was that I hadn't actually said that, which was true. What I had posted was how p*ssed off I was to discover from Argyle fans on Saturday night that while our club was crashing out of the FA Cup in the qualifying rounds our captain was swanning around at Home Park. All replies went banging on ad nauseoum about the devastatingly difficult journey to a ground two counties away (as though he was going to travel 5 up in a mini!), so I pointed out correctly that I had said where he shouldn't have been not where he should have been. But of course as club captain he should have been at Aldershot. The manager Mr Hargreaves did not want him there. That is worrying as it suggests the man he chose as club captain he thinks has nothing to contribute. Luke Young didn't want to be there. That is worrying as it says a lot about what he thinks of his role and the status of the club he is captain of. Gone are the days when Fred Binney's car broke down on the old A38 coming up from Plymouth, so he hitch hiked to Plainmoor only to find that he had missed the team bus. No mobile phones to make contact in those days, so rather than give up Fred hitch hiked to some Western League ground arriving 15 minutes before kick off in time to get changed and join the fray. The club and it seems now most supporters are sleep walking towards part-time non-league status being a permanent feature. Well I did say in my last post that that was my last on the subject, but Jon's reply to that post contained several questions which I think are answered in my reply to Sam's post. So that is my final word .... as long as there are no more questions!!

Who's it to be then, Stefano? Up the A38 for the Chiefs; or the other direction for the Albion? Newton Abbot doing well these days; a fine win against Exmouth yesterday. But what's this? South West One (West); Ivybridge top of the table (although defeated for the first time yesterday). I think I'm right in saying this is one step above Torquay Athletic. Speaking of whom, Tics beat St Ives 66-0 yesterday. The visitors ninth defeat out of nine, mind. But you can only beat what's in front of you. Yes Ivybridge is a fine rugby club and is only about 30 years old. They have come a long way since just having a small shed in a field. The facilities are excellent, the standard of rugby is good, and they have an excellent youth system bringing youngsters through from 7 or 8 years of age and for some it will be a life changer instilling some discipline and keeping them out of trouble. It's not unusual to have 600+ spectators which is bloody good for a small town. Their top of the table status is also being emulated over at Erme Park by the football team, who have an interesting top of the table clash with Bodmin Town at Priory Park coming up next week. Both excellent ways to spend an afternoon locally, and in the summer I also wander up to Ivybridhge Cricket Club (even though I don't really like the game) who also have good facilities and play in a stunning location at Filham Park. I have been to Sandy Park to see The Chiefs and will definitely go again. Excellent atmosphere and big crowds, but for a relaxing afternoon of sporting enjoyment Ivybridge Rugby Club, Ivybridge Football Club, and Ivybridge Cricket Club, are all an excellent choice. Well our rugby club seem to have been overcome by top of the table jitters and have gone on a TUFC wobble with their second successive defeat up at Avonmouth yesterday. The 2nds though maintained the reputation of the club with a 78-10 win at Torquay. No such wobble for the soccer boys though. They stuffed second in the table Bodmin Town 4-1 away at Priory Park, to open up a gap of 12 points at the top of the South West Peninsula League.

Last season Argyle senior pro Guy Branston picked up his fifth booking just before FA Cup first round day. Argyle were drawn away to Lincoln, Torquay at home to Rochdale. Rather than taking his legendary motivational skills and experience to Lincoln, Branno came to Plainmoor instead. OK. He wasn't Argyle's captain and he probably didn't do the half-time draw. I am sure I do remember him doing the draw at Plainmoor, but couldn't tell you if it was when he was on Argyle's books or not. No melt down on Pasoti: Footballer in watching a match of football shocker. In the town he lives in too!  :shock:www.pasoti.co.uk/talk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=80688

Rather than taking his legendary motivational skills and experience to Lincoln, Branno came to Plainmoor instead. OK. He wasn't Argyle's captain and he probably didn't do the half-time draw. Guy Branston has his say in this week's Western Morning News on Sunday: "Luke attended a fans' function before the game at Plymouth, and did the half-time lottery draw on the pitch, which some Torquay fans grumbled about. I really don't think it was a big issue, though.
Why should he have to go to Aldershot at extra cost to Torquay? I can see both sides of the argument, mind you. If I had been in his situation, I would have taken the weekend off. Would I have done the half-time draw at one of my old clubs? No."That, by my reading, leaves open attending a game at one of his former clubs.

Young probably should have said a polite "Thanks but no thanks" when asked to do the draw, but it's hardly the worst decision a 21-year-old has ever made. I know someone more than twice his age who went to Kidderminster and decided to have chicken & duck chow mein rather than cottage pie.

What Branno forgot to say was that it is not just additional nominal cost to Torquay, as he correctly points out. But under FA Cup rules in terms of what is deducted from the gate before share apportionment, it would also have meant it would have had the effect of being an additional cost to Aldershot on this occasion. Sort it out, Branno.
