Not ordinarily but they can do later in the season when games are being re-arranged. There was a kerfuffle involving Cambridge last year if memory serves me correctly. This appears to be a "training squad" meeting at St George's Park, Burton after next Saturday's game in advance of a final squad being named for a game next month. I'd previously read that as Estonia (away) - with Turkey (home) in November - although the paper is reporting it as a trip to Turkey. Checking further that may be correct because Halifax Town have been announced as hosts for the Estonia game on 18 November.

Bit of a feature in the NLP about Alan Connell who has recently joined Havant & Waterlooville. He's looking towards the future and is thinking of becoming an agent. I've heard there is some young talent at Watford that may be worth a look.
Another five weeks grace for Hereford United. The manager says "I know for a fact that some of the players have basically been paid now". Some? Basically? It's a start anyway. And what's this? Harry Agombar, son of Tommy, joining on loan from Swindon.
Two pages on Giuseppe Sole who seems to have been at Woking for an eternity. An injury-interrupted career; apparently the fans sing "Giuseppe Sole...always believe in your soul. He's got the power to know...he's indestructible". I'm sure we encountered him when we were last in the Conference.
Meanwhile FC Romania go marching on in the FA Cup. Two more wins and they'll be in the hat with us.

Team of the day No surprises but no Torquay Players picked.
Iyseden Christie Stuck in 6 (yes six) goals for Halesowen Town
Truro City Spare a thought for poor Barry Hayles for injured himself peeling an apple and missed the game against Slough Town, having 9 stitches in his thumb.
Rosco Dsane A brace for him for Whyteleleafe in their 3 - 2 win against Carshalton Ath.
Jake Robinson Was the hero for Whithawk by scoring two in their 2 - 1 win over Merstham.

Ah man mountain Iyseden always rated him!;-) How the mighty have fallen. And Jake Robinson another who has slipped quietly into non league obscurity! Roscoe Dsane I always pictured him in the Dukes of Hazard..oh no that was Roscoe P Coltrane now that's going back a bit!

I see Luke Young is featured on the front of the non league paper under the headline "TORQ OF THE TOWN" First paragraph reads "Captain marvel Luke Young hit a late wonder winner as Torquay came from behind to beat Wrexham - with his volley hailed by boss Chris Hargreaves as the best goal seen at Plainmoor.

I think the likelihood of keeping him past the January window looks slimmer by the day!

Yes I noticed that too. I'm not sure if Chris Hargreaves - or even Jon for that matter - is really qualified to talk about the best goal ever seen at Plainmoor. Mind you, read the quote ascribed to our manager and he says: "you will not see a better goal scored at this ground". Not quite the same thing but the NLP loves the sentiment. It's mentioned five times. But neither Luke Young nor Ryan Bowman are in the England C squad as reported on page 5 of the paper. I suspect there's a degree of politics going on, possibly with some players set to be named for just one of the two forthcoming games.

Personally Barts, I am delighted that they aren't travelling to Istanbul next Tuesday as would take quite a bit out of them. Bit more about it in the link below, under the section where Hargreaves hasn't been notified about any touchline ban! link

FRONT PAGE with pictures
"HAPPY SHOPPER! John-Lewis stocks up with two as Grimsby win again at Torquay"
John-Lewis is also in the team of the week.
No mention that Ricey's clown shoes got stuck in the mud for the winner though!

I note that the NLP were very scathing of some of the players performance yesterday:
Tongue 4 Pearce 5 Cameron 5 Ajala 5 Bowman 5 Yeoman 4 Acheampong 5
Strange goings on at the FA Trophy first round game between Curzon Ashton and Northwich Vic (0 - 0) with the ref ordering extra time to be played only to be told to stop the game by the assessor as this should not have happened.

I'm pretty certain the NLP doesn't mark below 4/10. There's been a few papers who do it that way.
To the best of my knowledge there's never extra-time in the FA Trophy (unless it's a replay). Different rules apply in the FA Vase where there can be extra-time subject to agreement. As was the case at Buckland Athletic yesterday.
Buckland are through in the Vase.
Merthyr are through in the FA Trophy. I hear that, should they play Torquay United at home later in the competition, a father and son from the area will be sponsoring the game with hospitality for all members of this forum.

As was the case at Buckland Athletic yesterday. It was optional extra time in the Devon Senior Cup in 1890-91. Torbay foolishly agreed to play extra time away to Argyle when they (or should I say "we"?) could have brought them back to the Rec for a replay.
