No TV for our 3rd Round game at the moment. 2 games have been selected for far, but I'm sure there is normally more than 2 to be shown between the 2 broadcasters. No surprises with the matches picked. It's on a par with Setanta's 1st round pick of Leeds v Northampton. www.thefa.com/TheFACup/TheFACup/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/2008/12/FAC_TVTies.htmHere's hoping for a best case senario:- 1 more game to be picked if not 2. We get selected and play on the Sunday and receive £160,000 appearance fee Our game on New Years day is kept to help clear any more fixture backlogs. Fingers crossed It won't be the same having no New Year game as there are none scheduled in the Football League this year. That goes for Boxing Day too.

Surely though we wouldn't need to change the New Years Day game. We had one scheduled on the 3rd January anyway, away at Burton, so in theory this is better because its no travelling for the lads? I know its a lot of games to play, but I'd rather have a New Years game over the Cup match to be honest. My thoughts on the draw: I'm glad its not away to Blackpool!

Having games on Boxing day and New Years Day, has always been a tradition and one that should never be lost.
Boxing a day is a chance for dads to get out of the house after the Christmas day madness and do what he enjoys most, watching the greatest game on earth.
Its the same on New Years Day, I can understand that players would want to have as much time Off over Christmas, like the rest Of us, to spend time with their families, but football is an entertainment and gates should be much higher for games played on these days.
When I worked as an entertainer, I worked every single night over the Xmas, even on Xmas day, mind you I did not come cheep, so was well worth it for me.

£160,000 for a live game on the Sunday but only £40,000 for a live game on the Thursday?
40 grand isn't a lot more than we get from Setanta is it?

Still not sure why you get less for a replay? It's still a live game after all, same amount of screen time and arguably in more of a prime time tv slot.

PikeyGull, I think they're pretty good choices to be fair. Preston North End -v- Liverpool and Southampton -v- Manchester United are both potentially massive upsets considering the two Premiership teams will want to win this competition.
I'm sure ITV have the first choice on the matches and they've championed the underdog this year. I'm sure they'll have Boro -v- Barrow (try saying that over and over quickly!)
I'd be surprised if they chose our game over that one and Swansea -v- Histon.

My initial thoughts were certainly that Histon had probably earned themselves another pay-day. Our tie is just not that exciting.

The FA Prize Money for the winners of a 3 Round Tie is £75k.Blackpool at home is game we can win and then we are in the hat for the 4th Round and who knows who we'll get.Looking forward to it already and as it approaches so will the players and the management team no probs.Plus a crowd on the day of between 3.3k and 4k (they will bring 600/9000) so nice one squirell.

Even though it has yet to be confirmed on the Official club site or the via the HE, it now seems inevitable that our NYD game against Weymouth will be postponed. Confrimation comes via the official Cambridge site, where they fell victims to their local rivals postponment of their local derby in order to help their preparations for their next round game vs Swansea. www.cambridge-united.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10423~1474699,00.html You'll see that the conference agreed to provision for such events back in April. With our fixture congestion, and need for funds via the prospect of a R4 game, I imagine Colin Lee will be pressing for postponment ASAP ...

I for one hope we don't exercise our option to postpone the New Years day fixture. Admittedly, partly through selfish reasons, but I would find it quite strange - we would have been playing Burton on this day anyway?? It would be a real shame to move the NYD derby and would cost the club money.......in the short term at least. I agree that the congestion would put us at a disadvantage against Blackpool and the lure of a big more prize money and a potential big money draw is looming, but hope the club don't do it. Poor old Cambridge have been robbed of New Year football - their game on the 3rd has also been cancelled with Barrow still in the FA Cup.
