Quiz question for you. I should imagine someone will jump in with the answer in about 2 minutes anyway, but worth asking:
The Manchester borough of Ashton-under-Lyne has a statue of three World Cup winners from the local area. Who are they?

Geoff Hurst is one.
An Italian, born in the town, may be another.

You clearly needed the Italian's name.
I looked it up. It was Simone Perrotta who won a winner's medal in 2006.
The third is more associated with the Lancastrian seaside and, as Chelston would put it, the wireless.
I plan to go to either or both of the Ashton grounds at some stage so will take a picture. It's a question for Phil - not Chelston - who I watch football with at Plainmoor. His mum came from Ashton.

Roma's Simone Perrotta indeed. Lived in England until he was 4. I believe he's never actually been there to see the statue, though. A damn good player - wonder if any enquiries were ever made to try and get him to play for England
