A famous old name in non league football, but Gainsborough rarely seems to make the news, and to be honest I wouldn't even have been able to guess correctly what county it was in.
I liked the look of Alfreton also, but as Barton says Gainsborough do clearly have a proper football ground. Good to know that Northolme, as well as the town of Gainsborough itself retain some character.

I'd heard a little about it from other people who did not speak in glowing terms. But I liked it and it was nowhere near as rundown as I'd anticipated. I guess it's a north of England town surrounded by east of England countryside. Where is Lincolnshire anyway? And, in common with other towns in that neck of the woods, it's got a large food factory. Being next to the Trent it's also not far from one of those massive power stations. Add a waterfront; a shopping centre carved out of an boilermaking yard; a big water tower - and you can happily pass a few hours in the autumn sun:

Great pictures, Barton. Is it too boring of me to mention that Gainsborough is the final destination of the Chesterfield Canal and that my maternal grandfather was a Lincolnshire yellowbelly?
