So it’s Claremont Road, former home of Hendon FC. I was there at dusk on Wednesday before taking a train home form St Pancras.
Hendon were one of the big amateur outfits and – with Barnet and Enfield – formed a trio of clubs either side of the North Circular Road. Claremont Road is actually nearer Cricklewood than Hendon and its’ story is another one of those sorry tales where a club leaves a ground only to see it haggled over and – more or less – left standing. Hendon now play at Wembley FC.
The building in the second picture is the old social club which ended its life as the Terry Neill Sports Bar owned by the former Arsenal player and manager of that name. It’s now unofficially occupied and, even though there was a gap in the fence, I didn’t wish to intrude.
