I went to this ground on the Golden Anniversary of me watching the Gulls. On that occasion we beat Bradford City 4-1 on the 29th August 1962. I have the framed programme hanging up in my downstairs loo. Arbroath were playing Inverness Caledonian Thistle (ICT) who won 2-0 in the Scottish League Cup round 2. Not a bad game. The ground is right next to the sea and when the ball got kicked over the not very big stand a steward would scuttle out onto the shore to retrieve it. Don't know what happens when the tide comes in. Attendance 672. I bought a half time lucky draw ticket and although listening attentively could not make out what the announcer said. I went to the office and I made the mistake of telling them I couldn't work out the blokes accent. They were not happy and when he found out the number he said 'Not this week Laddie'. No one came forward for the £149 (you think they could have made it up to £150). I defy anyone other than a jockanese to work out what was called out. I'm sorry - the photos haven't attached. Thanks for this, Sam. I bet it can be bloody cold there when the wind blows off the sea. And, good grief, it's right on the sea front. No messing. Honestly.
I've not been inside but have passed Arbroath's ground on the train several times. I've always smiled over the name of the adjacent "Pleasure Land" amusement arcade.
Not a name to give to a football ground, is it?
