Back in the early 1970s I bet the idea of you printing your own ticket wouldn't have got you through the turnstiles at Saltergate. Yet a "homemade" job sufficed at their new place last night and there wasn't even a turnstile operator with whom to avoid eye contact. And, to echo Wildebeeste's thoughts, I doubt if Rochdale teams of that era played their football so much on the ground. As an old friend was wont to exclaim: "typical northern team playing industrial football!". Not any longer, mate. I note too Chelston's comments about last night's crowd at Plainmoor for a "derby" match. Whilst I wouldn't call it a derby myself it's certainly local(ish). Well, from our end anyway. I've just done a quick AA Routeplanner journey and I note Cheltenham to Torquay 133 miles; Cheltenham to Chesterfield 124 miles. I leave it to others to debate the respective pleasantness of an evening in Chesterfield compared to Torquay. I'll just say I enjoyed my trip to Chesterfield and am looking forward to another two in September.
